Rite Of Spring

2011 ***1/2

Is it wrong that I'm beginning to enjoy combining Horrorthon with my work out? The difference between a 3 star and a 3 1/2 or 4 star rating is gauged by my willingness or lack there of to trudge through an extra 10 to 20 minutes on the elliptical to finish the film before going home. Today I opted for the extra 15.

Getting in her cardio.

At the beginning of the film we are informed that this particular town has a problem with people disappearing, it's been happening for many years. Right after that we witness two women being abducted. Once they have been snugly secured into a dirty old barn by their captor, the film flips to another unrelated kidnapping in progress. A local thug and a disgruntled former employee of a rich Mogul in town have decided to abduct his children for ransom. They take off to a remote area with the kids and wait for their pick up guy to come back with the money. Unfortunately for them, they are very close to the other abduction site where this psycho guy is performing some ritual for a beast he's keeping in the basement of the barn.

This film is fast paced with just the right amount of gore and has a villain with a great mask. I was taken off guard a couple of times when something unexpected happened and I love when that happens. It's a story we've heard before but One I really don't mind revisiting as long as it's done well. They lost a four star rating from me because the ending is slightly lack luster. Still, the film is very enjoyable and keeps the heart pounding. Well, maybe the elliptical had something to do with that.

On a side note, I can't remember who was keeping track of this, but for whoever it was, this is one of those films where they say the name of the film in the film.

Wow, I was going to ask last time whether you were on an elliptical in your own home or at a gym watching horror movies on your your iphone. I guess it's the latter. That's totally badass.

Maybe I could start a trend, Fearsome Fitness. What do you think?

This sounds fun! I can't believe you're able to watch movies while working out at the gym, impressive, most impressive!

I like the screen shots you posted.

Which brings up a whole new untapped genre: Fitness Horror. What kind of movie would be best to watch while using an elliptical?

Some kind of chase movie I would think, JSP. Love the Fearsome Fitness routine, Cat!

If zombies are ever actually realized Catfreeek could capitalize on the fitness front by chaining them just out of reach of you and your elliptical.

I love movies where villains wear cool masks and where the title of the film is mentioned. You should feel lucky to have tapped into both.
