Hipnos

(2004) ***

Visually stunning this Spanish psychological thriller takes place in a remote asylum. Dr. Beatriz has just arrived at her new job at a facility where they treat amnesiac patients with hypnosis. One of the first patients she encounters is a young girl who witnessed her mother's murder. She overhears the senior doctor telling the girl to cut her wrists during a hypnosis session. The next day the girl is found dead in the pool with cut wrists. Miguel, a special case on the unit reveals to her that he is actually an undercover cop investigating the facility because of frequent suicides. Soon after the doctor catches on to her snooping and she finds herself being drugged and treated as a patient being told she had a breakdown. This is where the film gets a bit disjointed and confused the hell out of us for awhile. It all comes together quite nicely by way of a clever twist at the end. Intriguing film for those who like their horror more cerebral and less slasher.

sounds interesting, too bad about the film losing its way for a while. glad it came together in the end.

Wait, am I obligated to report there is full nudity in this?

I don't think you're obligated... although some of the boys might think differently!

I was thinking this sounded like something I wanted to watch, and that was before I even knew about the nudity!

You are absolutely obligated!

This sounds intriguing - I like anything to do with psychology because I usually find myself yelling at the screen!
