‘Batman v Superman’ Ultimate Edition Trailer Reveals Tons of Never-Before-Seen Footage

From slashfilm, If the original cut of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice left you wanting more, then Warner Bros. Pictures and director Zack Snyder have a treat for you. A new cut of Batman v Superman is getting released this summer, and as we’ve previously heard, this Ultimate Edition of the movie will put 30 minutes of cut footage back into the movie, some of which is so violent that it has earned an R-rating.

Now the first Batman v Superman Ultimate Edition trailer has arrived, showing tons of new footage, including glimpses of new supporting characters, including Jena Malone as Barbara Gordon, and more action for the Man of Steel (Henry Cavill) and the Dark Knight (Ben Affleck).

ome of the new footage on display includes more footage from the Batman warehouse rescue, some new shots of Doomsday fighting our superheroes, a longer ending and an extremely different version of the North Africa sequence. That latter scene might actually make more sense with the new footage in the movie. We’ll have to watch the new cut to see if this replaced footage helps with any of the movie’s shortcomings. If you want to know about all the unseen footage on display, Collider has a detailed rundown of what’s new.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Ultimate Edition arrives on Ultra HD Blu-ray, standard Blu-ray and DVD on July 19th, along with the theatrical cut, but it will arrive on Digital HD much earlier on June 28 along with the theatrical cut of the movie. The Ultra HD Blu-ray Combo Pack, Blu-ray Combo Pack, and Blu-ray 3D Combo Pack all feature both the theatrical and Ultimate Edition versions, while the DVD only includes the theatrical version of the film. However, all of those versions will have these special features:

Uniting the World’s Finest
Gods and Men: A Meeting of Giants
The Warrior, The Myth, The Wonder
Accelerating Design: The New Batmobile
Superman: Complexity & Truth
Batman: Austerity & Rage
Wonder Woman: Grace & Power
Batcave: Legacy of the Lair
The Might and the Power of a Punch
The Empire of Luthor

At least Warner Bros. isn’t trying to screw over customers by making them buy two separate copies of the movie. That would be a pretty sneaky move so they could get their money’s worth out of the alternate cut, but there are plenty of fans who will buy this movie no matter what, so it probably wasn’t worth pissing off some of the other customers.

‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’ Reshoots: The Tone Needs to Be Lightened Up a Bit

From slashfilm, Yesterday brought the worrisome news that four weeks of extensive and expensive reshoots needed to be completed onRogue One: A Star Wars Story. At the time, there were no reasons given as to why the reshoots needed to be done, and Disney played off the news as just a normal part of production. While reshoots are built in to the production schedule of pretty much all blockbusters nowadays, the reason for those reshoots is important, and now we know why they’re happening for Rogue One.

The Hollywood Reporter reveals Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is undergoing reshoots in June with director Gareth Edwards and most of the cast because after the the first screening, Disney executives thought the film was “tonally off with what a ‘classic’ Star Wars movie should feel like.” This was a screening just for Disney executives and not for any general audiences just yet.

Reportedly the tone of the Star Wars movie was more that of a traditional war drama, and the reshoots will attempt to “lighten the mood, bring some levity into the story and restore a sense of fun to the adventure.” When we reported this news yesterday, we guessed that the tone might be a problem, mostly based on the somber first trailer, so it’s good to hear it’s not something more troublesome.

One of THR’s sources told the trade, “This is the closest thing to a prequel ever. This takes place just before A New Hopeand leads up to the 10 minutes before that classic film begins. You have to match the tone!” It certainly makes sense that the movie needs to be more lined up with the tone of the original Star Wars since it takes place just before the classic story we know and love. You don’t want a drastically different tone leading up to A New Hope, if only for the sake of consistently.

In addition, there are rumblings that the reshoots might involve bringing Alden Ehrenreich into the mix for a quickappearance as young Han Solo. The actor wasn’t cast by the time principal photography was over, so including him will help to set up the future spin-off following the smuggler’s days before A New Hope.

It sounds like Disney thinks the movie isn’t a disaster and will hopefully be saved by these reshoots. There’s certainly a lot riding on the success of this future spin-off so fans are just as invested in these side stories as much as they are in the ongoing primary episodes. As one studio insider said, “Anything less than extraordinary won’t do.”

However, I hope that future Star Wars spin-offs are allowed to veer into more unexplored territory as far as tone is concerned. I don’t think every spin-off needs to be in line with the tone of the trilogy episodes, and it would be nice to see some variety with these standalone stories.

What do you think?

Let's all go to the movies!

Over the weekend I purchased a film magazine from 1983 in a small antique shop.  Little did I know that there was 'treasure' within this treasure. Yes, inside was the "entertainment" section from the Providence Journal dated July 24, 1983. Above you can see what fun choices we had at Showcase Cinemas that summer! Although almost all of the movies ended up sucking it's still fun to imagine looking at this ad on a rainy afternoon and trying to choose something to watch.  Let's take a closer look...

'JAWS 3D' - Clearly Jaws 3D was the newest film to join the summer season given how large the picture is in the ad.  This was the time of weird horror 3D sequels (Friday the 13th 3D, Amityville 3D, and Freddy's Dead:  The Final Nightmare come to mind).  Although it ended up being awful in every respect, that damn Jaws ad makes me want to watch it again! It's Jaws, in 3D!

'Twilight Zone: The Movie'. - I LOVE LOVE LOVE 'The Twilight Zone'. The film? Not so much. In fact, it was terrible. The Twilight Zone movie is best remembered as the movie where 3 people (including two little kids) died horrifically during filming when a helicopter crashed on top of them.

'Octopussy' - I love Octopussy for the name and because it's so bad it's great! I love the later Roger Moore 'James Bond' films because he was way too old to play the titular character (pushing 60 in this installment) and it's fun to look at the much younger stunt doubles taking on the heavy work.

'Staying Alive' -  I Love 'Saturday Night Fever"! Say what you want but John Travolta is absolutely brilliant in the film. Sure he's pretty much channeling Vinnie Babarino, but his dancing is unmatched to this day. Don't remember? Check out the video above. Written and directed by Sylvester Stallone, 'Staying Alive' is an absolute turd. In the embarrassing sequel Tony Manero's tries to succeed as a dancer on the Broadway stage. YAWN! A misfire on all accounts (although the Bee Gees contributed a few good songs to it).

'Superman III' -  I love all the recent Marvel movies but back in the day 'Superman II' was the best superhero film ever (wanna fight about it?) which is one of many reasons why 'Superman III' was so utterly disappointing.  Attempting to make a low-budget comedy out of the Superman property was such a misfire that it ruined the franchise.  What's that you say, 'Superman IV:  The Quest for Peace"?  Okay, okay, true, that was even worse.

'Trading Places' - I haven't seen Trading Places in over 30 years but back in the day I recall that it was constantly shown in school when teachers needed to kill time.  Does it hold up?  I have no idea.  I remember thinking it was funny but then again I was just a 14 year old idiot at the time.

'Return of the Jedi' - Sure it had stupid Ewoks and Boba Fett was killed off in the least dignified manner possible, but come on, it's Star Wars!  I waited three long years after Empire ended on a cliffhanger for this and I was not disappointed!

As an aside, I love how the ad states, "Starts Friday, 'Vacation'"!  I wonder at the time if they realized what a blockbuster that would become?

I might add that the small print notes that the matinee price was $2.50.

Daily Spider-Man! Honestly, MJ, just knee him in the balls and take the stupid wand. He's like 80 years old.
