Hellboy hot, Eddie Murphy not

From darkhorizons, "Hellboy II: The Golden Army" looks set to take in around $34 million and the top spot at this weekend's box-office after pulling in a solid $13.7 million on Friday and a further $12 million on Saturday.

The total puts it nicely above the $23.1 million the original film opened with in 2004. Reviews were also more flattering with an 87% positive and 7.2/10 score on Rotten Tomatoes, and a 78/100 and 8.4/10 score on Metacritic (in comparison the first film scored 80% and 6.7/10 on RottenTom along with a 72/100 & 6.5/10 on MetaC).

"Journey to the Center of the Earth" fared well with a $21 million haul, much of that coming from the 3D presentations of the Brendan Fraser family adventure. Faring far more dismally was Eddie Murphy comedy "Meet Dave". The widely panned sci-fi comedy opened in seventh place with a mere $5.5 million. "Hancock" saw a very respectable 47% drop-off to garner $33 million in its second weekend.

You know, Eddie Murphy was really great in "Dreamgirls." I was hoping he would win that Oscar. But now I'm glad he didn't - why does he insist on churning out this god-awful stuff??
