Roger Ebert loves WATCHMEN

Ebert: ****

[excerpt] After the revelation of “The Dark Knight,” here is “Watchmen,” another bold exercise in the liberation of the superhero movie. It’s a compelling visceral film — sound, images and characters combined into a decidedly odd visual experience that evokes the feel of a graphic novel. It seems charged from within by its power as a fable; we sense it’s not interested in a plot so much as with the dilemma of functioning in a world losing hope.

I'm so glad Ebert liked it! I still value his opinion. I have read several negative reviews. Fools!

So happy you liked it to AC!

Well, well, well. AC proves me wrong.

*slow, unimpressed clapping*

So why only 4/5?

What did the idiot from the ProJo give it?

wow, sweatpants, you are tough (impossible?) to please. i am going back tonight. it's possible with a second viewing and time to mull the grade will go up, but there were a couple of weak moments. you'll know 'em when you see 'em. overall, though, it was like the graphic novel came alive.

I'm just kidding AC. But that reminds me of a great Turtles tune "You can try to please me, but it won't be easy."

I actually am impressed you made it. I most certainly would have fallen asleep the same way I have for every single midnight movie I've ever seen.

The San Francisco Chronicle raved about it "achieving a psychological sophistication that "The Dark Knight" aimed for but didn't quite reach."

AC stands for "Accidental Crotch".

Jerky Projo guy gave it 2 1/2 stars. Jerk.

Just got back from it and liked it a lot. I'd agree with 4 stars, and I'd agree that it goes for more sophistication than Dark Knight.

My only real complaint is that Snyder tried to stay too faithful to the book, and that made for some clunkiness.

But overall, it is a freaking gorgeous and smart drama about superheros (rather than a "superhero movie" which is what will disappoint the masses, I fear).

Spot on Landshark, as JPX said before, "The masses are asses" so I fear there will be a large level of disappointment. I also wonder how many morons will bring their little kids in spite of the R rating thinking it's the next Spiderman like movie.
"Daddy, why does that guy have a big blue penis?"

I'm with you all on this, great flick, 4 out of 5. Landshark, I also agree on some of the clunkiness as he tried to stay too faithful in places but per my other post, they got it right in the right places for me which is the spirit, lore and feel.
