Sometimes That Big Thing Back There is leaving you alone, and sometimes it's really not. Note also that one man's Big Thing Back There is another man's spiritual/religious artifact or monument (image #4) and, in a surprise twist, That Big Thing Back There turns out to be under the control of This Little Guy Up Here...because it's just a "waldo" (Image #5). Yay! I love that first Angus McKie painting. "The City Ships of Alpha," or so they're called in Spacecraft: 2000 to 2100 A.D., the first of my Space Books.
Mine are large-format books from the 80's that repurpose a lot of sci-fi novel covers by reprinting them with some sort of fictional connective tissue. Are your SBs the same, Jordan? My impression was that you were mining actual novel covers.
I also dig the Waldo image. I've seen it but I don't have it anywhere. I've always liked how the rampaging robot is mostly machine-y and only slightly anthropomorphized.
I'm loving these by the way.
Is it me or does the 3rd pic look like two robots passionately embracing?

Admittedly it's a weird picture. It's illustrating a strang book by Ursula K. Le Guin called The Lathe of Heaven. So those buildings/robots may not even be there, man. (Or, "may not even be BACK there, man.")
Not that I'm in a hurry to dis my man Angus, but that building-destroying robot is so very improbable. For some reason it's the building-sized hydraulic pistons that break the deal for me.
