What was the first movie you ever watched in the theater?

I have mistakenly always believed that Pete’s Dragon was the first movie I ever watched in the theater, that is, until I just looked it up saw that it came out in 1977, which means I had seen other films in the theater before it. After wracking my brain I concluded that the first film I ever watched in a movie theater was Herbie Rides Again (1974). As I wait for my next patient to arrive please tell me about the first films you ever watched, Horrorthonners!

I think I might have to dig into my collection of movie stubs for this one. My parents took us to the drive-in quite often, does that count? I remember the Bay State had a swing set. I once got kicked after running in front of a swinging patron causing the whole family to miss out on the movies and spend the evening in the ER where I got stitches.

First movie in the theatre was 'The Aristocats'. First movie at the drive-in - 'Diamonds Are Forever'.

I'm sure Octo will know what he saw and possibly what I did too. I'm thinking Fantasia was the first.

Well, you're half right! The first movie I saw in an inside theater was Disney's Cinderella. I recall little of the experience but I do recall my mother saying I was so excited I was standing up in my seat (and come on, that scene in which the mice are trying to get the key to let Cindy out of the attic is a nail-biter).

There were some drive-in trips before that, but I'm not sure if the movies I remember were before or after my Cinderella experience. We saw a double feature of Woody Allen's Everything You Wanted To Know About Sex But Were Afraid To Ask and Sleeper. Also, we saw The Deep on my grandmother's recommendation because the underwater footage was so cool, but you couldn't really see a damn thing at the drive-in.

Sorry, DCD, I don't know what yours was.

JPX - Pete's Dragon was my first movie which is probably what caused your confusion.

The first R rated movie I saw in the theater was Monty Python's Meaning of Life.

The first R-rated movie I saw was either When a Stranger Calls or Porkys.

day-old news, so probably nobody's still reading this, but my first movie was the Empire Strikes Back. at that point, i was old enough to know who the characters were but too young to control myself in a movie theater.

my dad had to take me home before the movie was half over because every time yoda appeared on the screen i kept saying, "yoda! yoda! look! it's yoda!"

I think mine was The Little Mermaid and I saw it with my sister and my mom. After that, I wanted to sing all the time and my sister hated my dad because, in the movie, Ariel's father destroys all her stuff.
