(2010) ***1/2
From the opening scene with Richard Dreyfus singing "Show me the way to go home" to the CGI chicks frolicking under water with amazing breath control to the gore-fest of Spring Break gone awry - this movie delivers!
Prehistoric piranhas are released into Lake Victoria just in time for the Spring Break party that college kids dream about. Minus the flesh eating monsters of course.
Elisabeth Shue plays the sheriff trying to keep people alive and she really sells it. I have to say, I think it's awesome that there were so many well-known actors in this flick. For a movie that's pretty much all gore and boobs, you'd think some of these people would have turned up their noses. But everyone really goes for it and it's that much of a better movie for the performances. Yeah, you can cringe (and laugh) at the crazy gore, but you do still care about what happens to the core group. Not something that can often be said for the standard slasher.

Yeah I loved this one - it's pitch perfect! It was able to perfectly capture the look and feel of all those cheesey 70s animal-gone-amok films while somehow keeping it contemporary. I'm glad you liked it. I heard that the sequel sucks though.
I'll have to check this one out -- I missed out on it last year, and the year before... is it just me or are a lot of people tackling the Human vs. Nature subgenre this year?
yee-haw! sounds wicked fun.
This film is totally worth it if for just that big beach attack scene alone. Nice review, pretty bloody pick for a biddy:)
You're right, the players in this actually gave a damn, which is nice. This movie rocks.
Glad you watched this DCD! It's definitely one of my favorites in recent years.
I saw the sequel before Horrorthon began but I'll keep my opinion of it to myself.
