Top 10 impossible spaces (bigger on the inside than out) in films and TV

10. Mary's carpetbag
Mary Poppins (1964)

Part of the proof positive that Ms. Poppins was no ordinary nanny (besides being airborne with an umbrella and sliding up a banister) was the scene in which she removes lots of large objects from her carpetbag, including a tall hat stand and potted plant. Similar scenes had shown up since in many a cartoon during childhood, and seem commonplace now. But Mary's bag was, in all likelihood, this writer's very first exposure to the confounding concept of bigger on the inside than out.

Romero's ...of the Dead is revealed

From filmstalker [excerpt]

Survival of the Dead

...is the title that would suggest there's something more to being dead than just dead and eating people. However the blurb returns to familiar territory, and then puts a bit more of an interesting slant on it all.

In a world where the dead rise to menace the living, rogue soldier Crocket (Alan Van Sprang) leads a band of military dropouts to refuge from the endless chaos. As they search for a place "where the shit won’t get you," they meet banished patriarch Patrick O’Flynn (played with zeal by Kenneth Welsh), who promises a new Eden on the fishing and ranching outpost Plum Island. The men arrive, only to find themselves caught in an age-old battle between O’Flynn’s family and rival clan the Muldoons. It turns out that Patrick was expelled from the isle for believing that the only good zombie is a dead zombie, while the Muldoons think it’s wrong to dispatch afflicted loved ones, attempting to look after their undead kinfolk until a cure is found. But their bid for stability on the homestead has turned perverse: the undead are chained inside their homes, pretending to live normal lives – and the consequences are bloody. A desperate struggle for survival will determine whether the living and the dead can coexist.

So two groups of survivors find a place to live while the rest of the world is in chaos, and one of the groups wants a Shaun of the Dead life, while the other is doing the typical struggle for survival.

Oh I don't know, Romero has lost his shine and appeal for me these days, the rest of the world is overtaking him at a fast rate of knots, and I do wonder how much of this film will deliver something new and how much will just end up being the same old stuff.

This is awesome, 'Back to the Futures' Finally Compared

From iwatchstuff, In the years between Back to the Future and Back to the Future II, Michael J. Fox visibly aged and the actress playing his girlfriend was replaced by Elizabeth Shue. Thus, to show the closing scene from the first film as the opening of the second, it was necessary to completely reshoot it. Dig?

Anyway, as you can see above, someone has made a side-by-side comparison of the sequence so you can now needlessly critique how well Robert Zemeckis and crew recreated the scene. The audio is layered together as well, and for some reason hearing a duet of Docs saying, in unison, "Roads? Where we're going, we don't need... roads," is utterly hypnotizing:

Haiku Hump Day: Horror Movies!

That's right! Our very raison d' blog swings back into the spotlight like a severed head on a rope. It may seem like thinking outside the box, but in fact it's thinking in the exact center of the box.

Think of it as fresh as any new haiku topic. All icons and facets are fair game, no matter how much discussion has gone before. Re-acquaint yourself with some old familiar faces!

Are they ever coming out? I'm getting wet out here.

Be they slashers,

This bit of popcorn in my teeth is driving me nuts!

fancy slashers,

those living dead zombie types so popular with the kids,

Man! I'm really creepy.

things that hail from Satanic realms,

Honey, I found out what's been clogging the drain!

things that hail from realms far murkier,

I have SUCH an ice cream headache right now

and monsters! Monsters in all their myriad forms.

I get the guy in the carrot costume!

Yes, ALL their myriad forms.

Those things and all the other scary things I left out. I know that you folks, of all folks, get the idea. Mix it up, my horror homies!
