Cruise As Pike In "Star Trek"?

IGN Movies says that according to a trusted source, director J.J. Abrams would like to have an A-list star cameo in his forthcoming big-screen reboot of "Star Trek."

The source claims that Abrams is wooing his "Mission: Impossible III" star Tom Cruise to cameo as Captain Christopher Pike. Cruise's last big-screen cameo was in "Austin Powers in Goldmember."

Pike was James T. Kirk's predecessor as captain of the U.S.S. Enterprise and Mr. Spock's first commanding officer. Jeffrey Hunter portraryed him in the unaired TV pilot, "The Cage."

Sure, why not? As much as real-life Cruise bugs me he's still a decent actor/movie star.

I don't see how this could work, but I like the idea of him also portraying burned-up Pike and seeing backstage footage of him riding his little wheelchair thingie into people.

From iwatchstuff, While I appreciate JJ Abrams absolute faith in my Star Trek knowledge, it's possible he's overestimating the average movie goers enthusiasm for Star Trek trivia. Besides you're asking for trouble to put Tom Cruise's scientology lovin ass on a spaceship. You'll yell action, he'll see some lasers, think it's the rapture and start killing everyone.
