Ridley Scott, nuts?
From cinemablend, Blade Runner is likely to be talked about a lot over the next couple of months, especially with the “Final Cut” of the movie coming out both to DVD and with a limited theatrical run later this year. But director Ridley Scott has more in mind than just a recut of the film. He’s back to talking about doing a sequel.
This isn’t the first time Scott has talked about doing a Blade Runner follow up, although the idea hasn’t come to fruition yet. Part of that is because the director hasn’t seen a script that has really drawn his interest in. Moviehole reports that Scott told his Comic Con audience: "If you have any scripts, you know where to send them.”.
Opening script submissions to the general fanbase isn’t likely to help get a sequel made. After all, there’s a ton of bad fan-fic out there, typically more bad than good. Reportedly Scott’s already seen some of the good spec scripts out there, including an adaptation of K.W. Jeter’s first Blade Runner sequel novel, but yet he’s still looking.
Of course, the biggest downside of doing a sequel is that it either will have to not feature Richard Decker (Harrison Ford’s character from the original) or recast the role. Other than Indiana Jones, Ford has never been real keen on revisiting the roles that made him famous when he was younger. I can’t imagine Scott having anything that would entice Ford back into the dark future.
