'Rush Hour 3' leads weekend box office sales

Despite some tough reviews, Rush Hour 3 sped to the top of the charts this weekend at theaters, taking in $50.2 million, according to studio estimates from box office trackers Nielsen EDI.
While the comedy starring Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker didn't pull in the haul of its predecessors —Rush Hour 2 debuted to $67 million in 2001 — the buddy cop film was an easy winner over the modest slate of newcomers.

That despite earning recommendations from just one-fifth of the nation's film critics, according to the survey site RottenTomatoes.com.

The Bourne Ultimatum dropped 51% from its debut to take second place with $33.7 million. The Matt Damon spy film has taken in $132.3 million in 10 days.

The Simpsons Movie continues to stick around, holding onto third with $11.1 million. The Springfield clan has pulled in $152.2 million in three weeks.

Among the other major newcomers, the Robert De Niro fantasy Stardust met the low end of most analysts' expectations with $9 million, good for fourth place.

Audiences were less kind to Daddy Day Camp, the sequel to the Eddie Murphy hit. This version, with Cuba Gooding Jr. in the starring role, came in 10th with $3.6 million, about $3 million below expecations.

Ticket sales slipped 14% from last weekend, but surged 31% over the same weekend a year ago.
