Damnit, I said I wasn't going to purchase this since I already have all the episodes on DVD but it looks like it's worth it given all those documentaries included.
When did this show air again? I feel like I was into it for awhile but not that much. Wondering now if I just didn't realize how cool it was or if I was too young to realize how cool it was.
1990-91
(I'm sure you were too young, darling) :)
Definitely too young - check it out when you get the chance and you'll see one of the best shows ever put on television. It first aired in the United States on April 8, 1990 and ended on June 10, 1991.
I just watched the pilot again, for the first time in about a decade. It totally holds up. Without TP there'd be no Lost, no Sopranos etc. etc. They basically invented "the art TV show that is also wildly popular."
Totally true! I'm going through the episodes right now and it absolutely holds up. Here's a line from Wikipedia,
"The series also later inspired several television series in different ways, including Northern Exposure, Wild Palms, American Gothic, Eerie, Indiana, The X-Files, Carnivàle, Lost, Desperate Housewives, 24, Heroes and Night and Day. Many of these series have been referred to as "the next Twin Peaks", either before their run or after popular success and examine the human condition and the underworld of a seemingly perfect suburban setting."
Thanks for all those kind words about me being too young! ;)
I think it was probably more just me being to wrapped up in my own college invented drama!
I will have to revisit the series.
I'll have to bite the bullet and buy it as well. The copy of the pilot that I have is lacking in quality.
JPX, what do you mean "one of"? Twin Peaks puts all of those shows to shame (no offense Lost)!
After season 3 LOST is now my favorite!
Lost is better.
Pish posh! I firmly disagree (though I haven't seen season 3 of Lost). Twin Peaks is pure inspired genius.
But I'm still not convinced that the Lost folks aren't making it up as they go along with the assistance of focus groups and fan boys.
"But I'm still not convinced that the Lost folks aren't making it up as they go along with the assistance of focus groups and fan boys."
Absolutely incorrect!
I love it when you boys fight.
"Pish-posh!" Harsh words Johnny!
Look, pal, you want to talk "making it up as they go along," how about
1) Major Briggs getting messages from space
2) James Hurley fixing a woman's car for five weeks
3) Nadine thinks she's a teenager
4) Audrey Horne on heroin for four weeks
Lost is as planned and precise as a Russian ballet.
It's about as exciting as a Russian ballet too! (Sorry, couldn't help myself.)
And in any case, that's all season 2 stuff you mentioned which doesn't count.
Well, Lost Season 3 "counts"
Yeah I can see I don't have a leg to stand on with this one.. That was like a mate in four.
I'll be back though after watching Lost 3! And you two had better pray that it delivers after all your hype!
And you're probably right about it requiring a second viewing for me to fully appreciate Lost 1 & 2 but I don't have the patience. If I ever hear Michael say "I've got to find my son" again, I'll have to beat myself with a frying pan.
Yeah, I'd rather hear Kyle MacLachlan mention how much he likes the coffee for the seventieth time.
And anyway, Russian ballet's not "boring"! What the hell are you talking about?
Ballets are boring by definition. If you don't believe me -
ballet
n) : an extraordinarily boring theatrical presentation of a story performed to music by ballet dancers [syn: concert dance]
Holy crap, look at all these comments!
"Mate in four," ha.
I have all of Lost to get through. I feel like the people who have never read any Harry Potter.
