As much as I've complained about Futurama's mediocrity, I'm really happy to hear about this.
Futurama suffered in my own estimation the way the two Matrix sequels suffered in almost everyone else's: it isn't bad, but it's not as amazingly perfectly amazing as its antecedant. I don't know if Futurama is mediocre, but it's just nowhere near the Simpsons. Futurama's jokes are generally not as good and they never will be.
I was "meh" on this show until it started on Adult Swim and was therefore on in the background every weeknight. I fell in with the vibe of the characters and (especially) the setting and now I love it. There are still dud jokes, but they make up for it with the good ones.
Plus, it's gorgeous. It's all eye candy. I'm psyched for more.
