500 straight 'Simpsons' episodes? D'oh!!!

From cnn, You like HLN, right? Which means you probably like watching TV. But how much TV could you really watch in one sitting? Say your favorite show is "The Simpsons" ... could you watch 25 episodes back-to-back? 100? How about 500?!

Just to show you what exactly you're up against:

500 episodes at about 22 minutes per episode = 11,000 minutes = about 183 hours = a little over seven and a half days.
Wowza! That's a lot of TV-watching. Think you could do it?

A group of super fans is attempting that feat right now in Los Angeles. They're aiming to set a record by watching 500 back-to-back episodes of "The Simpsons."

The current TV-watching record stands at 86 hours 6 minutes and 41 seconds; the current trio of title holders watched “back-to-back Jack” -- the series "24."

The Simpsons superfan who holds out the longest will take home an array of merchandise (including some goodies commemorating the 500th episode, which airs February 19 ... ahhhh, they're approaching 500 episodes, now it all makes sense!). There's some cash involved, too ... as in a $10,500 prize.

Members of the cast will also be hanging out at the screening and there will be free donuts for all! Homer would be so happy.

Okay, now let's get down to some of the details of this contest. You, like us, must also be wondering about those essential human functions ... just how are they planning to handle those during the marathon?

Well according to the official rules, participants can eat and drink. We assume they'll be able to take potty breaks, too. But sleeping? Yeah, not so much. They'll only be able to get however many winks they can during scheduled rest breaks.

Now we know you probably can't wait to get in on this action because who has anything better to do, right? But we regret to inform you that only 100 spots were open and they have found 100 people crazy (or awesome) enough to attempt the challenge.
