Iron Man joins Sony's new Spider-Man film Robert Downey Jr. will costar in Sony's 'Spider-Man: Homecoming'

Iron Man is now #TeamSpidey.

Robert Downey Jr. has signed on to appear as Tony Stark in Sony Pictures’ Spider-Man: Homecoming, further weaving the new standalone webslinger film into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Spider-Man has previously been licensed exclusively by Sony, but a sharing arrangement last year allowed Marvel Studios to feature the rebooted character, played by The Impossible’s Tom Holland, inCaptain America: Civil War.

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige recently told EW that the deal is a two-way street. “He is in the universe now, and the fun of the universe is that characters go back and forth,” said Feige, who is producing Homecoming with former Sony studio chief Amy Pascal [via ew].
