From usatoday, Some might be surprised that Spinal Tap doesn't take the No. 1 spot on this list of the "10 Best Bands That Never Existed." Instead, Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem rule the bunch, with The Rutles grabbing the third slot.
Bands that aren't mentioned at all include the Banana Splits, The Partridge Family, Driveshaft and Josie and the Pussycats. (My personal favorites include Dingoes Ate My Baby, Oz's group from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Dr. Funke's 100% Natural Good-Time Family Band Solution from Arrested Development.)
If you go crazy for fake rockers, check out FakeBands.com, which lists hundreds of fake bands from TV and movies. The site even put out a book, The Rocklopedia Fakebandica. You never know when you might need such a comprehensive resource.

Yay! Dr. Teeth! That's awesome.
Alvin the Chipmunks? Lame, I say, lame.
Spinal Tap 2nd???
I agree, that's a bit weird too. Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem are great, but Spinal Tap has a whole documentary about them...as "fictional bands" go, you don't get a deeper or more personal fiction than that.
Whatever, it's just some website.
Spinal Tap not only has the documentary, but they have 2 full albums (one of which is great) and have toured the country. On the other hand, the Archies have Jughead P Forsythe.
And Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem have Animal.
What about The Monkees?
Hmmm, I don't think the Monkees count somehow. Even though they were kind of a fake band, they were played off as a real band...
True. I saw them in concert 3 times so I guess they must be real. What's weird is that they started out fake and became real over time.
