Stephen King Says Twilight Author is “Not Very Good” God I love Stephen King

From slashfilm, Bestselling novelist and pop-culture writer Stephen King isn’t a fan of Twilight author Stephanie Meyer. King tells USA Weekend that while both Rowling and Meyer are “speaking directly to young people, The real difference is that Jo Rowling is a terrific writer and Stephenie Meyer can’t write worth a darn. She’s not very good.”

Talk about stating the obvious. Well it’s nice to see someone with credibility not afraid to make this “unpopular” statement in public. I mean, authoring a popular book series can’t be that hard right? Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke is even jumping on the bandwagon. And I’m sure her book will instantly become a New York Times Bestseller.

Bonus points to anyone who can name King's two favorite living writers.

And if you don't know, guess!

I knew one of them at one time but now I can't remember... Wasn't Clive Barker one?

JK Rowling and Scott Smith.

Barker was a good guess. He definitely likes him.

But I think the two he rates highest are actually Salman Rushdie and John Irving.

I think in the preface to that serialized thing he did--forget what it was called--he talked about how Dickens wrote in serial form, which was why he wanted to try it. But then he quickly clarified, "Not that I think I'm a Dickens or anything. If a Dickens exists today, it's Rushdie or Irving..."
