LAPD fire sale
I managed to pick up a couple of spinners in pretty good shape (see photo). Of course I wasn't thinking about parking so I nearly got a citation blocking 76th street like this (I've since moved them to the roof). Somebody spilled noodles on the passenger seat of the older one.

My God! If I had endless money you can bet that I'd have one of those babies.
Then I'd get the ladies.
Oh yeah - you'd definitely get the ladies then!
Although they might be kind of geeky ladies...
You'd need endless money and the power to break the laws of physics (since, like Luke's landspeeder and a thousand other "floating" sci-fi vehicles, the spinner makes no sense at all from an engineering standpoint).
Oh, way to throw some cold water on the whole concept Jordan!
Spoil sport! ;-)
Yeah, man, I just want to look cool!
Screw physics!
Of course in my head the illustration of "screw physics!" has a couple of apples about to bonk Dcd on the head...
Floating stuff is one of my favorite sci-fi motifs. I think the nerds who devise the tech background for Star Wars talk about "repulsors," which you'd find in everything from landspeeders to furniture.
In Kurt Vonnegut's book Sirens of Titan a tycoon loses millions developing legless tables and chairs that stay aloft with magnets. The problem is that one tiny bump will send the things zipping across the room.
If Octo owned this car he'd rip the tires off.
I honestly can't remember if the front protrusions swivel like that model you described, octo. All four wheels are on the ground in the picture, of both spinners, or, facing down, so I can't tell. (It's obviously the same spinner twice)
I had to "tip" both spinners downward to hide the fact that the back wheels are a little bigger...but it floats straight up and down. I hid the front tires on the background spinner and the back tires on the forground spinner, for just this reason.
I should have said,
"Fuck physics!"
Better alliteration.
"Phuck physics" works, too.
