Sorry to interrupt but, the ‘Star Wars Episode VII’ Title is ‘The Force Awakens’!

From slashfilm, he Star Wars Twitter has revealed the official title of Star Wars Episode VII. It’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens. There’s no “Episode VII” in this title treatment, but that doesn’t mean the naming convention is gone. (That said, if there’s some plan to add “Episode VII” back to the title later, why not just present it in full at this debut?) So for right now, the film is Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Directed by J.J. Abrams, the film stars John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Max von Sydow, Lupita Nyong’o, Gwendoline Christie, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker. It opens December 18, 2015. Read more about The Force Awakens below.

Here’s the official tweet announcing the title:

The prevailing thought on the reason for the title announcement today, besides the fact filming completed last week, is that a short teaser trailer could be coming before the end of the year. I also love that this is the first time “The Force” is referenced in a title, and it mirrors the three-word titles of the other first films in previous trilogies.

Also, according to this Twitter user, Disney didn’t register the domains until today, Thursday November 6, so as to keep the reveal a surprise. www.theforceawakens.com doesn’t yet take you to StarWars.com

So what does The Force Awakens refer to? Well, first the non-spoiler version. If you want to make Star Wars movies every year for the foreseeable future, you can’t just have one Jedi and no Sith, right? Which is basically where we were left at the end of Return of the Jedi. The Force Awakens likely refers to more people becoming one with the Force, on both the good side and Dark Side.

As for who and how? Well that means talking about some serious spoiler and rumor talk. Only read below if you want to think about that kind of thing.

Like I said, at the end of Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi, Luke Skywalker is thought to be the last Jedi. However, if you’re going to make a new trilogy of films, there need to be more and those people need adversaries. The latest rumor is, between films, Skywalker has become the most powerful Jedi ever, possibly because he’s the only person using the Force. He goes into hiding because he’s so overwhelmed by his powers and the path they may lead him on.

John Boyega’s character is likely a runaway Stormtrooper who is confused and strong with the Force. Over the course of the film he, along with Daisy Ridley’s character, will join up with Han Solo and Chewbacca to try and find Luke to solve some kind of mystery. A mystery that may or may not involve a missing lightsaber.

Also, if The Force is awakening, that means the Dark Side is rumbling, too. With Darth Vader and the Emperor dead at the end of Return of the Jedi, someone or something new will have to start using the Dark Side of the Force. The rumor is it’s a character (or characters) who have some kind of ancient allegiance to the Sith Lords of old.

So let’s make this official:
Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace
Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones
Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith
Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope
Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back
Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi
Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens

Gives me chills. How about you?

Frankly I think the title sucks, and is vague and boring. I can come up with at least 5 better titles off the top of my head:

Episode VII: The Jawas Take Over
Episode VII: Murder in the Cantina
Episode VII: Cannonball Run, Except With Bounty Hunters
Episode VII: Gungan Genocide
Episode VII: Too Fat For Lunch

"Too Fat for Lunch" is the clear front-runner.
