New Kubrick special edition DVDs

From Aintitcoolnews, "There are a few double-dips coming this year that I’m not complaining about. I bought the original Kubrick box set from a few years back. EYES WIDE SHUT isn’t even in it. So this year, they’re putting out four new Kubrick special editions, part of a new collection, starting with 2001, A CLOCKWORK ORANGE, THE SHINING, and for the first time on American DVD, the full uncensored EYES WIDE SHUT. As Feltenstein said, “New management feels differently than old management.” In other words, they’re ready to treat us like adults now. Thanks. I appreciate it. And in return, I’ll buy the film this time, gladly. Each of the four films is sporting a brand-new “state-of-the-art High Definition Master.” And each disc is reported to contain never-before-seen footage. Evidently, the estate (most likely meaning Jan Harlan) has provided Warner Bros with documentary footage that is new. The films themselves will not contain new footage (except, obviously, for EYES WIDE SHUT), since there’s no new footage to put in. Feltenstein said that as far as he knows, Kubrick had all his unused footage burned. All that remains is behind-the-scenes, which is honestly what I’m most interested in. If you’ve looked through THE KUBRICK ARCHIVES, that mammoth coffee table book, you’ve probably got a good sense of how well documented Kubrick’s thought process is. If Harlan even begins to open up that material to Warner, the stuff they could add to these new DVDs would be fascinating."

"Feltenstein said that as far as he knows, Kubrick had all his unused footage burned." Man, Kubrick is a shrink's dream. He was brilliant but certainly lugged around a backpack full of pathology.

He also destroyed the sets and the PLANS for the sets, making Peter Hyams' job for the odious 2010 that much more difficult. Hyams should have gotten the message but he was dealing with Arthur "prune-face" Clarke who is an idiot and didn't come up with any of the good ideas or the title or really anything I like about 2001 except for the wooden dialogue which Kubrick clearly liked because of its utilitarian "soullessness."

So burn the sets I say!

Does the Discovery still exist?

It's in my storage space, but don't tell anyone.

Is there some particular scene they cut from Eyes Wide Shut that everybody but me knows about? All I can remember was some stuff about guests digitally added to the "walking around the orgy" scene to obscure images of high-class fucking. But that might have been just the US version.

Anyone?

I've heard the same thing about the orgy scene, but nothing else. I'm sure there's probably 600 hourse of nude footage of Tom and Nichole. His OCPD coupled with his perversion led to endless takes.

The Discovery DOES NOT exist, and the 2010 Discovery doesn't match Kubrick's. (Although XD1 tumbling end over end is the only cool thing in Hyams' movie.)

Octo, you got it right with the people superimposed over the nudes. Look forward to more patented Kubrick "chillingly un-erotic nudity" like in Clockwork Orange and The Shining.
