From Moviesonline, "Reports from the cool cats at B.D. are suggesting that the "Friday the 13th" remake that was being slated for an October release has been halted and is still up in the air on whether or not it will start production. Jonathan Liebesman (Darkness Falls) was signed on to direct the script written by Mark Wheaton. A few cast members have also already been cast in various roles, including Gary and Jake Busey. Corey Feldman has also signed on for a cameo which would make this the 3rd Friday the 13th film he has been in.
Not much is known about the movie except that the movie will focus on hockey mask killer Jason Vorhees doing his usual thing. Which actually has already put an interesting twist on this "re-make" as the original movie had Jason's mother as the suprise killer. Whether or not they intend to go with the supernatural origins of Jason has not been confirmed.
The reason for production being stopped is reportedly an issue with obtaining the rights to the series. It makes me wonder exactly what kind of creative liberties they are planning to go with in this movie if the folks who own the rights aren't willing to sell out. They already have on numerous occasions already."

The "supernatural origins" of Jason? Huh?
He never dies. If they try to explain that further, it's awful. Look at Jason #9.
Yeah, what's really left to say about Jason? Basically it was all stated in the first film, and part 2 I guess.
I always think of Jason as a tragic figure. I deformed child who suppossedly drowned but lived to see his mother killed while trying to prevent the camp from re-opening because it was a place of death, not just avenge her son. Her killing the councelors responsible in the prologue was retribution because they neglected her son while having sex and she believed he drowned- then she sabatogged the camp over the next few years to pevent it from re-opening.Mabe even started the talk in town of how it was cursed. obviously Mr. Christy knew who she was, and was unsuspecting in the first film. She, in a phycho-esque manor, adopted his personality as an alter- which was awesome, I hope the re-make will go back to this. I can only hope that the story told in the first film will be the main focus, the backstory should also be heavely developed. Then the jason of today, in the hockey mask- who should be human so that a realistic and therefore scarier motive can exist(the people who invade his camp/territoty killed his mother)can be revealed in an epologue or wrap-around. If I were doing the script , also, I would not reveal Pamala Vorhees until the end, but to create a slightly simpathy for her that was in the first film, I would include a flashback sequence that would expound upon her grieving Jason's death and the fire's she set while the flashback of Jason's drowning is revealed. All this I took away from Betsy Palmer's performance. She and Adrianne King made this a tragic story. Hey Brainstorm...why not cast Adrianne King as Mrs. Vorhees!?! And please find a special effects master that can live up to the bar set by Tom Savini and The Music and erie tch-tch-tch effects are better when they are kept subtle so that there is a type of subliminal anticipation that is kept instead of having the sinces bombarded because the producers underrate the perception of the audience. There was a mistery/suspense factor that after the fourth movie was somewhat disguarded.(well, the firth tried- but who gives a shit.)Obviously I care about these characters. I was very young when I saw parts one and two at a drive- in double feature, and I was so terrified I spilled my soda on my older brother and his date. He'd been forced to take a group of kids with him...so it's also sentamental for me. I sure hope they don't tamper with it too much. Thanks Cecil
please forgive all the spelling errors in my previous post
there were other character backstories that made this an interresting film. A love triangle wherein the girl did wonderful classic moviestar immitations, Christi's attraction to Alice and her trouble back in California, and the two other councelors-- Bill, the would-be hero who was suspicious when he killed a snake with a machetti--- and the one female coucellor who was kind of a maternal conscience of the group, who still like to have harmless dope-smoking,strip-monoploy playing fun. I loved all these characters...the original is a classic with parallel. Halloween was frightening, but did not have the character developement.
