Silver Surfer remains uninteresting

What the hell is his power?

From Darkhorizons, "Marvel Comics cult favorite character Silver Surfer may finally get his onscreen debut with next year's "Fantastic Four 2". The liquid metal looking character who soars through the universe on his board, has evolved into one of Marvel's more sophisticated comicbook heroes says Variety.

The storyline for 'Four' is being finalized, with the studio about to choose between a script by "X2" scribe Mark Frost and another by Don Payne, who scripted Fox/New Regency's "Super-Ex Girlfriend."

While sources said Payne's script had the nod, and the Surfer, a studio spokesman denied that anything was set and that the Surfer was one of several plot possibilities. Fox wants to be sure a guest-starring stint doesn't wash out future feature plans."

How can you ask what his power is? He wields the Power Cosmic!

The "cosmic" part of Marvel has always been its weakest link, stuffed full of that "excelsior!" attitude. I always wondered why his interstellar conveyance and his freakin' name were based on an Earthling beach sport.

In the Ultimate universe, the equivalent character has wings he can fold into his silver body. Another case of them fixing a bit of Marvel-ness we all outgrew before we were born.

He'd maybe be cool to watch if they employed some Superman Returns - level FX for him, but if FF's any guide he'll just be lame.
