Romero to remake Argento's Deep Red

From darkhorizons, Horror legend George A. Romero ("Dawn of the Dead," "Night of the Living Dead") is in advanced negotiations to direct a 3D remake of one of his peer's most acclaimed works - "Deep Red".

Dario Argento's 1975 Italian cult classic follows an English pianist (David Hemmings) living in Rome who witnesses the brutal murder of his neighbor, a psychic.

With the help of a tenacious young reporter (Daria Nicolodi) he tries to discover the killer, an obsession endangering his life and that of everyone with whom he comes into contact as the killer starts taking their lives.

A children's tune, a corpse entombed in the walls of a derelict house, and Argento's trademark gruesome violence all play a part in the film which, along with his next film "Suspiria", is often considered the auteur's best.

Cool. Deep Red is one of my favorites. Like The Bird With the Crystal Plumage, Deep Red is more firmly grounded in Hitchcock suspense. It's still pretty violent. Argento kind of went off the deep end after it (but not in a bad way).

I'm happy about this too, it'll really be interesting to see where Romero goes with it.

Man! That trailer goes on forever.

That's pretty interesting. I haven't seen Deep Red but I liked Bird with Crystal Plumage a lot.

That picture at the top of the post is funny. It looks like that guy is in a bucket of dead people.

Has Romero ever done a remake before?

Happy Halloween!

After giving out candy to about 600 kids (would have been many more but I ran out of candy), I took a stroll in the cemetery near my house...
