Based on several reports, it has been said that Brandon Routh will not be asked to return for the "Superman Returns" sequel. The idea is to make the person cast as Superman in the upcoming "Justice League of America" appear in the stand alone film.
Now, AICN reports that all that previous information is false and that Warner Bros has full intentions on bringing Routh back. The only thing that turned out to be true is that Routh and Bale will not be in "Justice League." As far as Bryan Singer returning for the sequel, that's still unknown.
Recently, Jon Favreau has mentioned that Marvel is looking to proceed with the "Avengers" movie and the studio will take their time to give each superhero their own stand-alone film first, before joining them together with the same actors playing the roles. Warner Bros is doing the exact opposite by casting new, young actors in "Justice League," and only then will each character be given their own film.

God, he's awful. Just look at that photo. Everybody's running the other direction.
I like how DC and Marvel are doing the ensemble flick in opposite ways, and I wish DC all the best. Somehow, I think they're going to need it. Theirs is not the better approach on paper and their characters don't seem to exist on screen with the same amount of punch.
Except, of course, Batman.
