Stone creating George W. Bush biographical film

From filmstalker,Yes I was surprised too at the thought. Of all the films that Oliver Stone could tackle the idea that he'd make one about George W. Bush is surprising indeed. Especially when we've heard his personal opinion to be rather different than that of the President.

However that's exactly what he's doing and it seems that Josh Brolin is set to play the lead.

Moritz Borman, a producer of Oliver Stone's most recent work, has been saying that the script was completed before the strike and is ready to start filming. He even tells us that most of the crew from Pinkville have just moved across to this new project - you'll remember that the previous film was put on hold while the strike was ongoing.

On the subject of Pinkville he seems a little annoyed that the project fell through with the studio:

"I had a great script and one of the best casts on any of my films, with 40 young actors and Bruce Willis...It's a shame they lost faith in the film, and that they unemployed 500 people right before Christmas. We were three weeks from shooting."
Oliver Stone told Variety how he is not going to let his personal view dictate this film and that it will not be an anti-Bush film.

"It's a behind-the-scenes approach, similar to 'Nixon,' to give a sense of what it's like to be in his skin...But if 'Nixon' was a symphony, this is more like a chamber piece, and not as dark in tone. People have turned my political ideas into a cliche, but that is superficial. I'm a dramatist who is interested in people, and I have empathy for Bush as a human being, much the same as I did for Castro, Nixon, Jim Morrison, Jim Garrison and Alexander the Great."
They also tried to get his personal opinion of President George W. Bush, but Stone was quick to dodge that early bullet.

"I can't give you that, because the filmmaker has to hide in the work...Here, I'm the referee, and I want a fair, true portrait of the man. How did Bush go from an alcoholic bum to the most powerful figure in the world? It's like Frank Capra territory on one hand, but I'll also cover the demons in his private life, his bouts with his dad and his conversion to Christianity, which explains a lot of where he is coming from. It includes his belief that God personally chose him to be president of the United States, and his coming into his own with the stunning, preemptive attack on Iraq. It will contain surprises for Bush supporters and his detractors."
Well I don't know, just reading how that paragraph was phrased sounds on a negative slant to me, but I guess it's what your beliefs are and your starting point of view is, I'm sure people are reading that and thinking that the film is going to be very positive and uplifting.

He goes on to say that although Josh Brolin is better looking than Bush, he has that same charisma and movie-star swagger that people see in Bush, and that's one of the reasons he chose him.

Stone says that the project is ready to go, and if financing came around the corner quickly the film could be ready for the elections. However he's not concerned if it isn't as this is really about the character study of Bush, not a political statement.

Whatever it turns out to be, this is surely one interesting story to be told, and I would have never have guessed that Oliver Stone was going to be the one to tell it, with that in mind I think it's fair to say that it won't be as complimentary as you might expect.
