Right on!
Exorcist, feh. A viewing of either Audition or Ju-on (the Japanese version) will pretty much zip you right on up to hardcore.
No, the new stuff doesn't have the same emotional baggage. I read The Exorcist when I was 11 or 12, and it fucked me up...
I snuck a look at the movie soon after, and it is burned in my brain exactly as I saw it as a kid.
I WILL however watch both of your recommendations and compare my old fear to the new...
I have a rules question Octo.
Been spending a lot of time at the hospital with the old man. (Fuck, I can review THAT as horror.) If a horror movie is on commercial TV, and I watch the whole thing, does that count?
Do edits nullify a film as an entry?
(As you can tell, I am looking for all the time to watch I can. I mean, hell, it IS Horrorthon, so he may just have to spend October alone, depending on the ruling.)
Of course it counts Miko! Everyone here is trustworthy (with the possible exception of Whirlygirl) and should be allowed to make such calls without having to seek approval. I'm just psyched you're participating. Also I like the new avatar.
yay miko! neither sleet nor snow nor dad-in-hospital will keep you from participating in your first horrorthon. as a shrink i recommend you channel all strong feelings into the thon; i bet jpx backs me up. in addition to my hoping as always that your dad does as well as possible and is as comfortable as possible, i will now add that i hope your dad likes pg-edited, commercially interrupted horror movies.
btw, you could bring a laptop or a portable dvd player to the hospital if you get tired of said edits and commercials. using that exact strategy, i beleve one of the original 'thonners watched a lot at work one year, octo maybe.
and i am way too chicken to watch either audition or ju-on, let alone contemporary american torture porn, but i may tackle the exorcist this year. it is on my netflix queue, along with some other classics i've neglected over the years.
Awesome! Watch JUON by yourself late at night, you'll never recover.
ha. ha, sweatpants! we can take this up on the scrabble board.
happy first horrorthon, miko!
Awesome!
I watched Ju-On last year and it is mad-scary. I don't know that I could stomach Audition though.
I echo AC - good thoughts for your Dad!
PS - saw your comments on "The Goat and the Tater!" Which was funny because I totally thought of you when I read that post and was going to send it to you! And you beat me there you blogger, you!
