From worstpreviews, Fox's Sunday debut of "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles" scored the best opening night ratings of any new show in three years, while NBC's not-so-lustruous Golden Globes barely registered with audiences.
Boosted by strong marketing and a big NFL playoffs lead-in, the Warner Bros TV-produced "Terminator" notched an eye-popping 7.6 rating/18 share among adults 18-49 and delivered around 18.3 million viewers with its one-hour premier Sunday at 8. This performance demonstrated the value of scripted series at a time when network executives are trying to spin their ability to survive without writers and focuse more on reality shows.
By contrast, the WGA and SAG boycotted Golden Globes, which resulted in the NBC announcement special having to settle for an abysmal 1.7/4 in the demo and 5.8 million viewers. That's even fewer viewers than last-week's star-less "People’s Choice Awards" on CBS.
As for "Terminator," it gave Fox its best premiere numbers for a scripted show in eight years, since "Malcolm in the Middle" became an instant hit on a January Sunday night in 2000. "Terminator" also ended the two-week reign of "American Gladiators" as the season's biggest premiere.

Despite my ongoing overtures of love for Summer Glau, I completely missed this.
I had it on in the background with the volume off. It looked mildly interesting but I just can't get into a show that's based on a big budget franchise. Going from TV to big budget movie is one thing, but going from big budget to much smaller budget makes the inferior quality too noticable for me. Also, the idea that the terminator protecting John is "hot" and John has a crush on her is just irritating.
Would it have been more enticing for you if she were fat and sweaty and he was still attracted to her?
What would have been more “enticing” would have been if they used large imposing characters like Arnold or some futuristic looking robot rather than an attractive woman who looks good in slacks. I think the whole, “We’ve advanced so much in robotics that our robots looks perfectly human” is just a cop-out for, “We don’t want to spend the money to make a cool-looking terminator so we’ll just hire an actress and call her a “terminator.”
True, they could have hired any idiot from the WWE to fill in.
