Music Friday: Alison Krauss and Robert Plant

Good morning all- I'll keep the review short and sweet (I'm more than a little sleep-deprived). So I went to hear the two above last night at the Pavilion in Boston not knowing anything about their music together. That was the way to go, since I had no expectations, and I'm not a country music fan. Fortunately there was plenty of blues and rock and bluegrass and yes some Zeppelin tunes (don't ask me for the titles) and only a couple of straight-ahead country songs. Alison Krauss' gorgeous vocals and the incredibly talented band (including T-Bone Burnett) made even the latter more than tolerable, and I was totally starstruck being a stone's throw from Robert Plant, who was passionate and focused and all about the music. Plant looked and sounded like he was really enjoying himself, so I will start saving my pennies now in the hope that Led Zeppelin will tour someday.

I love Alison Krauss. I met her once at the Westin when I was managing the restaurant there. She is super cool.

Boy, if we are having Music Friday every week I better get some concert tickets!

Did he sing "Little by Little"? I love that damn song.

Did anyone hit on you?

dcd, why didn't you come to the concert! you would have loved it.

jpx, i don't know the names of any zep tunes so i can't help you there.

ummm... no one hit on me exactly but it certainly seemed like someone grabbed my ass on the way out of the show. i would have discounted it completely as being just the crowd, but it happened twice. you make the call.

We should change the name to "Music and Groping Friday!"

That's cool. I'd like to see Plant someday as he's a living legend but I don't think a Zep reunion is necessarily a good thing. I have no problems with bands like KISS or Aerosmith or even the Rolling Stones doing their thing until alzheimers kicks in but to me the whole Zep legacy would be cheapened if they got back together. But I'd still buy tickets in a heartbeat if that makes any sense.

JPX - let me guess - Little By Little is an 80's tune? Do I even have to ask?

i take your point jsp!

Little by Little" was an 80s tune used on Miami Vice! It was from his solo stuff.

I just grabbed my wife's ass as she walked past, and told her I was celebrating "Groping Friday". She just shook her head as usual...

I wonder if the ladies at the Home Depot will appreciate the day.

Two things from strings-past.

AC- Where in Philly did you live/go to School?

DCD- I realized none of us congratulated you on 12 years with R. Bravo! (I'm on my second in the same time frame.)

That Home Depot comment cracked me up!

Not a peep out of Octo or Julie today, could it be...

DKC said...

No, no baby yet. I did speak to them not long ago, but will wait for them to reveal. I can say that little Z is not coming today.

Octo is posting the update now.

But I will say that Little Z may not be an appropriate name for him at this point!

I was a hard core Zep fan when I was younger. I was ecstatic when I saw Page and Plant in concert. They were great! Now I never listen to them any more.

It would be nice if I had still had the ticket stub. I have a bad habit of losing the stub to almost every concert I've been to except for all those damn Phish shows. For some reason I can't lose them if I tried. The one stub that upsets me that I don't have is for the one Greatful Dead concert I went to.

whirlygirl's a phishhead! who knew. i never did see phish myself but i surely did see a good number of dead shows back in the day. going to see phil lesh in a couple of weeks. it won't be the dead but it'll be upbeat and fun, perfect summer music.

Don't get me started on lost ticket stubs (too late). I used to carry them in my wallet because I cherished them so much that I felt the need to bust them out and admire them when no one was looking from time to time. Then one day my canoe capsized in Brickyard Pond and I lost my wallet. The $13 dollars that sank was nothing compared to my Nirvana ticket stub from their FUCKING LAST TOUR EVER! YEEEEEE-AAAA-RRRRR-GGGG-HHHH!!!!

Sorry, I had to let that out. And thanks for picking at old scabs Whirlygirl...

Before the IPOD thang I had a 200 CD changer with a "Phish Free Since 2001" sticker prominently displayed that I was very proud of. I have since added them back into my life with mixed results. Said results range from "this song really stands the test of time" to "phuck these guys and everything they stand for!"

the capsizing canoe story may have just beat out "farting on homeless man" as may favorite jsp vignette to date. it is so rich with fascinating and mysterious details. perhaps jordan could work up a short story for us, once his other deadlines have been met. leaving alone the ticket stub-wallet "habit" for the moment, the following questions suggest themselves:

a. why bring your wallet canoeing on brickyard motherfucking pond? did they install a starbucks on that little island?

b. after the tragedy occurred, did johnny make valiant efforts to retrieve said wallet or did he just cuss?

c. was he in the canoe when it came to grief? if so, what specific activity caused the canoe to capsize? is brickyard pond usually that treacherous?

d. is there video? or witnesses?
running freak? jpx?

Oh AC, you vixen, I spit Diet Coke on my laptop again....

a) We were camping out on the island. There's a 7-11 on the other side where we could purchase orange vanilla popsicle things and chips.

b) Once it was gone all hope was lost instantly. There are some steep dropoffs and the water is gross and murky to begin with.

c) Alcohol was involved. Several people have drowned in Brickyard over the years though the cause is always debated. The potential killers include snapping turtles, the steep dropoffs for waders who can't swim, hot water springs, cables.

d) Two witnesses including Handsome Stan. The Nirvana stub was only one of many casualties. Now let us never speak of this again.
