It's weird. I used to associate him with "boring". I got into more than one argument with my last girlfriend because I would say, "Uh oh, Tim Russert is on television, get ready to be bored!" It was nothing personal, of course. He seemed like a nice guy and this truly is sad news.
The coverage on TV right now is discussing his relationship with his college-age son, and his own father. I always respect the powerful folks even more when I discover their loyalty to family. Very sad.
I saw a great interview with him after he had written his first book, which was about his father. He was a major family man. I just always hate to hear about somebody dying like this - just, here one day, gone the next. Clearly some of my own life experience plays into that, I also just really liked him.
