Robert Downey Jr. is kind of dumb
From worstpreviews, Robert Downey Jr starred in "Iron Man," the biggest surprise-hit of the year. But how does he feel about the other comic book movie that is currently aiming to become the second biggest earner of all time, "The Dark Knight." Moviehole got the chance to speak to Downey, who was not shy about expressing his feelings toward the new Batman film.
"My whole thing is that that I saw 'The Dark Knight'," said Downey. "I feel like I'm dumb because I feel like I don't get how many things that are so smart. It's like a Ferrari engine of storytelling and script writing and I'm like, 'That's not my idea of what I want to see in a movie.' I loved 'The Prestige' but didn't understand 'The Dark Knight'. Didn't get it, still can't tell you what happened in the movie, what happened to the character and in the end they need him to be a bad guy. I'm like, 'I get it. This is so high brow and so f--king smart, I clearly need a college education to understand this movie.' You know what? F-ck DC comics. That's all I have to say and that's where I'm really coming from."
He added that if he never works with DC Comics, it will be fine with him. "You know, you're never too old to burn your bridges because I believe I have offended everyone," he said. "I think I've got a couple more. 'I'll burn that bridge when I come to it' is my favorite phrase I've ever coined."

I actually agree with the gist of what he's saying. TDK isn't a very smart movie, and if people are saying it's really smart, then that's hyperbole. Not as lame as calling Borat a smart biting satire (when it was just Jackass with a funny accent), but still TDK is brainless, gorgeous fun. None of the characters make any sense. The plot is silly. The set-ups are completely incredible, even within the world the movie establishes, etc.
Plus, it has Eric Roberts in it, who automatically drops the IQ of any movie he's in.
I kind of agree with him, too. I finally saw it two nights ago and had many similar complaints.
That might all be true, but when you are one of the great "recovering dicks" of Hollywood, that is getting another (third, fourth, fifth?) chance, and you are in an inferior superhero movie the same summer...Shut The Fuck Up!
I think Iron Man was at least TDK's equal. Less action, more brains. I liked em both a lot, but I felt less compelled to pick Iron Man apart afterwards.
I just loved The Dark Knight (and Iron Man). I left the theater with a big grin on my face and then watched it again 2 days later.
it's funny that Robert Downey Jr. said the Dark Knight is too sophisticated when he himself tends to sound so sophisticated
