I thought Marvel's "Luke Cage: Hero for Hire" was the first major Black superhero.
john singleton's going to make Luke Cage too and both of them are going to be weak.
not to play the reverse-reverse race card, but both brian azzarello and brian michael bendis did more interesting stuff with luke cage than john singleton managed to do with his first foray into blaxploitation action.
ever see Shaft? he had the opportunity to make a blaxploitation neo-classic and instead put together a pretty run-of-the-mill action movie that nobody talks about anymore.
it's possible that my allegiance isn't reverse-reverse racist, but rather more of a bias toward people named Brian.
and if you've never read Azzarello's "Cage", check it out. great read.
John Singleton is a terrible director who scored big with his first movie (Boys N The Hood)because the screenplay somehow hit a bullseye, just as happened with Shyamalan and The Sixth Sense.
