Pointless indeed! I’ve never been much of a fan of the original although Sissy Spacek was terrific in it. Don’t even get me started on The Rage: Carrie 2 or the made-for-TV Carrie movie. I have no interest in seeing a remake.
The original is a weird flick when you watch it all the way through (the bouncy "we're all getting ready for the prom!" montage always throws me), but the performance of both leads are the kind that can't ever be matched (see Norman Bates).
I feel the same way about Willy Wonka. If not for Gene Wilder, I think that movie would be pretty forgettable, but his performance is so singular the remake was doomed from the start, at least in the minds of our particular generation.
Yeah - this is a terrible idea!! I completely agree with you about the performances, Octo. I can't imagine anyone else as Carrie.
Piper Laurie was perfect as the freaky mother as well, such a complete waste of time and money. If you look at the comments under the blurb there isn't one person excited about it.
