I don't like the poster, but I didn't like the similar style of the TCM prequel posters and that turned out okay.
"It's an old property you like, so here's a picture of it as seen through murky, sepia-toned glass. It's classic, can you dig it?."
There's such a thing as too much abstraction; the Shape mask doesn't look like anything, really, except that it seems to be smirking.
