Gigli

(2003) half a star

Gigli has the honor of being the first movie to "sweep" the Razzie's top six categories, beating out both Cat in the Hat and From Justin to Kelly for worst picture of 2003. Impossible you say? Gigli (Ben Affleck) is a hoodlum who captures an autistic young man to coerce a federal prosecutor into dropping charges against a mob boss; JLo is the additional mob talent brought in to keep an eye on Gigli. Rather than describe the plot in further detail, I prefer to list the people and things Gigli (the movie) manages to offend:

Italians
Latinas
Autistic people
Stupid people
Lesbians
Straights
Mobsters
Actors
Romantic comedies
Gangster flicks
Yoga
Lovers
Suicidal people
Cadavers

Why the half star? Both Christopher Walken and Al Pacino have brief roles, and though their parts utterly suck, their acting doesn't. Justin Bartha (the autistic man) is also good, though his role isn't. Everything else about this movie is awkward, confused, unpleasant, unsexy, and unfunny, so I can't even recommend it for a "so bad it's good" experience of your own. Just skip it.

You're the only person I've ever known who's watched this movie.

I had no idea that Ben Affleck played Gigli. I just assumed it was J-Lo. Go figure.

Wow. Gigli...

On top of Showgirls, Grease 2, Xanadu, Cyborg and Glitter... AC - you're either tough as nails or certifiably insane. Fortunately for you, you're the one who makes such calls.

Dadgum my bubblegum, AC, it's like you just keep picking up another nail and pounding it into your forehead. Way to drag the swamp.

I too have never met another human being who has seen Gili. I copied this years ago for a future so-bad-it's-good viewing but I never found that I wanted to experience it. Bravo for taking one for the team, ac!

I watched Gigli and loved it.

Just kidding. I also have never known another person that has watched it, and I too assumed J-Lo was Gigli.

Oh man a shiver just when up my spine when I read "Eegah". Awful, awful movie, that one.
