Julia Ormond is Superman's Kryptonian Mother in "Superman" Reboot
From worstpreviews, About a week ago, it was reported that Connie Nielsen (Gladiator) was in talks to play Superman's Kryptonian mother Lara in Zack Snyder's upcoming "Superman" reboot.
Now comes word that Nielsen is out and Julia Ormond (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Che) has been offered the role. If she takes the part, she'll star alongside Russell Crowe, who recently signed on to play Jro-El, the Kryptonian father of Superman (Henry Cavill).
Kevin Costner and Diane Lane will play Clark Kent's Earthbound parents. The film is set to hit theaters in December of 2012.

I seem to remember Julia Ormond as an It Girl who didn't really go kaboom like they all thought she would. Anybody got anything different?
That's exactly right. In fact, there was actually a cover story in the New York Times Magazine on her "packaging" and how it didn't fly.
Personally I HATE that shit, where they decide "for me" who's the next big deal. Shia LeBouef (or however it's spelled) is the latest example I can think of. Usually it's some woman, though. Like Penelope Ann Miller or Gretchen Mol or Sienna Miller.
D'oh! I just comment on three posts as Julie but I can't switch on this one because Jordan moves fast like rattlesnake.
I didn't know Penelope Ann Miller got that treatment. I used to dig her, but she's so B-list my digging soon played as a guilty pleasure (ever see The Relic? Ugh).
THE SUPERMAN REBOOT - will have Julia Ormond joining Russell Crowe as Supermans parents on Krypton before it explodes. Because this will tell the Superman origin story. Yet again. Otherwise no one would know what was going on. “There’s a new director now, so naturally I assumed the character would be completely different,” audiences will no doubt say to one another. “By showing me what I already know and saw in two other movies, I’m now reassured that Superman is still exactly the same as always. And it was great. I enjoy watching the same story over and over and over again. I’m like a fucking toddler.” (deadline)
You've got to get off this "anti-origin story" kick. (All of you!) I LOVE origin stories in comic book movies, and I'm glad they're doing Superman's again.
Remember "Superman Returns?" No origin story. And it sucked!
Oh I didn't write that, I just thought is was funny.
Fuck origin stories!
This is probably worthy of more discussion later but for now I'll just link to this conversation and point out the obvious fact that Superman Returns would not have been saved by an origin story alone.
