Kate Beckinsale has landed the lead role in the remake of BARBARELLA.
“Jane Fonda made the ‘Barbarella’ role very much her own all those years ago and she is bound to be a tough act to follow. But the feeling is that Kate has just the right combination of beauty, humour and acting talent for the part.”
Reports are that Sienna Miller, Angelina Jolie, and Halle Berry have also been considered for the role of BARBARELLA.
Beckinsale has also starred in sci-fi films such as UNDERWORLD and VAN HELSING, so this will not be a “new” role for her.
As we reported earlier, the remake is being written by Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, the same two guys who wrote the remake of CASINO ROYALE. The film is being produced by Dino De Laurentiis, who has this to say:
“The reinvented heroine will be akin to a female James Bond - in outer space.”

Hmmmm. Kate Beckinsale hasn't yet knocked me over with anything I've seen her in, so I'm a little disappointed/dubious. But I haven't seen her in too much, so she may do alright. I was more excited about Drew Barrymore, but I guess she dropped it. Halle Berry wouldn've been my pick from the choices mentioned.
