What is it with Tom and his vitamin cure-all?

From USATODAY, Tom Cruise, with wife Katie Holmes by his side, appeared at a private fundraiser last night for the New York Rescue Workers Detoxification Project, a controversial Scientology-based program he co-founded in 2002. The program offers free treatment to emergency workers who suffer breathing difficulties and other health problems stemming from exposure to toxins at ground zero after 9/11 terror attacks.

According to the New York Post, participants are given vitamins - including high doses of niacin to release fatty acids into the bloodstream - nutritional counseling and join daily exercise and sauna sessions of up to 180 degrees. The 'detox' takes about 30 days.

While many workers have said they feel better from the program that the Post says receives city money, Mayor Bloomberg said earlier this week, Scientology is "not science, and we should only fund those programs that reputable scientists believe will stand the light of day."

Hey! It's not just vitamins, okay? Don't forget the thousands upon thousands of dollars worth of brainwashing. Jeez.
