(2011) ***
Two lone employees are working the front desk at the historic Yankee Pedlar Inn that is closing its doors forever in just a few days. They are convinced the ghost of Madeline O’Malley, a woman who died there many years ago, haunts the place. With only three guests in the hotel there isn’t much else to do but to roam around with an EVP recorder and try to get evidence of the presence of Madeline. This of course leads to a whole mess of trouble.
This is a slow builder; I personally like this type of ghost story. At first nothing much is happening, just a whole bunch of talking about stuff and fooling around. You get to know the characters and their relationship to each other. A really nice way to get into the ghosty thing without having to throw in a bunch of pop ups or cgi crap. This film is done old school; the anticipation is the best part. You have to earn those scares and by the time they came I was sucked in and ready.
First rule of Horrorthon is: watch horror movies. Second rule of Horrorthon is: write about it. Warn us. Tempt us. The one who watches the most movies in 31 days wins. There is no prize.

This looks sweet! One definitely needs patience for slow builders but it seems like a great payoff.
I'll have my two posted by the end of the day! :-D
Nice first, Cat! I had aspirations to be first but a day at Disneyland did me in.
I just looked up EVP recorder and found a site that sells ghosthunting equipment. What a racket.
