From aintitcoolnews, I appreciate the talent of CG designers, but I’m pretty old school when it comes to matte paintings and deeply miss them as a dying, if not dead, part of the legacy of cinema.

So today let’s fondly look back at this brilliant artform via the brilliant Ralph McQuarrie hard at work touching up a matte painting of Bespin for The Empire Strikes Back. Call me stupid, but I wasn’t aware McQuarrie also contributed matte paintings to the movies. I grew up with his concept art (had a Luke on Taun-Taun from Star Tours’ gift shop on my wall as a kid) and now have an even deeper respect for him, which I didn’t think was possible.

I know, I thought that was an old wive's tale too (old wives talk about the craziest shit!). Anyway, with this concept in mind, an upcoming online dating service (findyourfacemate.com -- launching later this month) plans to match couples that like alike. Because, let's face it: nothin' beats making love to yourself.. Oh GW -- so caliente (in my mind I'm somewhat of a Spanish stallion. Literally -- like a warhorse that can talk).

In a 1989 study published in the Journal of Social and Personal Relationships, male and female "raters" were asked to judge the faces of 60 couples (some real, some strangers included as a control) on a nine-point scale, where 1 represented no similarity and 9 indicated the hypothetical case of opposite-sex twins. The average score for non-couples was 3.52; among actual couples, the average was 4.05. Concluded the study: "The results suggest that the observation of facial resemblance among couples appears to reflect a real phenomenon."

So following the reasoning that facial similarities seem to help with initial attraction, Findyourfacemate.com decided to use a "facial-recognition technology developed by Face.com, which zeros in on nine points on each face -- the eyes, ears, nose, chin, and the corners and center of the mouth -- to find similarities" between potential romantic partners.

Wow, that sounds like...a great way to accidentally start dating a relative.

I loved House of the Devil and can't wait for West's next, The Innkeepers. I'm really digging this retro poster. From worstpreviews, "The Innkeepers" plot: After over one hundred years, The Yankee Pedlar Hotel is about to close its doors for good. The last remaining clerks, Claire (Sara Paxton) and Luke (Pat Healy) are convinced that the hotel is haunted and are determined to prove it.

As time ticks down to the final days of operation, mysterious guests check in, including Leanne Rease-Jones (Kelly McGillis), a former TV actress turned psychic, and an old man insistent on staying in room 353. As several strange occurrences begin to add up, both Claire and Luke must make the crucial decision on what to believe and what not to believe."

Paramount’s Rango, the animated Western starring Johnny Depp and directed by Gore Verbinski (Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy), lassoed the year’s biggest three-day opening so far with $38 million, according to studio estimates...Despite stellar reviews, Rango garnered a dispiriting “C+” grade from CinemaScore audiences. Adults, in particular, didn’t enjoy the ride, with those 25 and up rating the movie a “C.”

In second was the romantic sci-fi thriller The Adjustment Bureau, which collected $20.9 million. The Universal release gave Matt Damon his best leading-man opening since 2007′s The Bourne Ultimatum, while costar Emily Blunt, who also voices Juliet in Gnomeo & Juliet, now has two movies in the top five. Bureau skewed older, with 73 percent of its audience at least 30 years old, and CinemaScore moviegoers gave the PG-13 film a “B” grade.

The fantasy romance Beastly snared third place with $10.1 million. While by no means a stupendous gross, the result is nonetheless a minor victory for CBS Films. T

The week’s other new release, the ’80s-set comedy Take Me Home Tonight, let down Eddie Money fans everywhere. The R-rated film, which was shot way back in 2007, earned just $3.5 million from 2,003 locations — enough for an 11th-place finish. If the estimate holds, that’ll represent the worst debut for a film playing in at least 2,000 theaters since 2009′s Bandslam premiered to $2.2 million.

Arnold Schwarzenegger Considering "Terminator," "Predator" and "Running Man" Remakes

From worstpreviews, We've been hearing that Arnold Schwarzenegger is planning to return to acting and is already considering one of three scripts. Now, during The Arnold Classic, Schwarzenegger was asked to give an update on which projects he's looking at.

"Well, first of all it's more [like] fifteen films," he stated. "Obvious ones from 'The Terminator' to remakes of 'Predator' and 'The Running Man' and all of those things. Then also a lot of original stuff too."

It was reported last month that director Justin Lin and writer Chris Morgan, who are currently working on "Fast Five" together, are in talks for a fifth "Terminator" movie. And having Schwarzenegger on board would be amazing.

Schwarzenegger added: "I am also packaging a comic book character right now. I'm going to announce that sometime by the end of March or the beginning of April."
