From iwatchstuff, Grown Ups streaming into your computer or video game console before it reaches pay TV? It sounds like a dream, I know, but it's coming true. Netflix and Relativity Media have announced an agreement whereby the studio's releases would stream on the Netflick machines only a matter of months after DVD release--which is the time usually reserved for watching those shitty movies on HBO and Starz.

"Relativity has produced and financed some of the biggest and best films released in the last few years," Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos said in the statement, failing to mention that Relativity's 2010 releases include The Spy Next Door, Dear John, Bounty Hunter and Robin Hood. Now imagine a montage depicting families switching channels from HBO to their Netflix queues while "The Times They Are a-Changin'" plays. Wasn't that powerful and so true?

From geekology, Due to a crappy Photoshop job of the DeLorean's time circuits (above), there's an internet rumor going around that in Back to the Future II Marty travels into the future to July 5th, 2010 (yesterday). WELL IT ISN'T TRUE. In reality, Marty travels to October 21, 2015. Which is good news if you think about it because that means there's still hope for hoverboards, power laces and vacuum jackets. If he had actually traveled to today I'd be depressed as shit Max Headroom didn't serve my breakfast. But there's still time! You hear that, Max? Better make some Headroom in that robotic ass of yours for a size 12 rocketboot!

With this past weekend’s release of “The Last Airbender,” there have been a fair amount of epithets hurled in the approximate direction of writer-director-producer M. Night Shyamalan, along with the general pulling of hair and gnashing of teeth about how horrible the movie is and how, after a string of lousy films, this is, indubitably, the end of his career. Well, pardon us, but we’re going to have to call shenanigans on this one.

'Eclipse' reaps $175 million over first six days; 'Last Airbender' grosses $70 million

From hollywoodreporter, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse couldn’t match the first six days of its predecessor, The Twilight Saga: New Moon, but with $175 million in its coffers, the film still pulled off one of the biggest openings ever. (New Moon earned $178 million in its first six days.) Female audiences internationally swooned for the third installment of the popular series, which now boasts a worldwide gross of $275 million.

The Last Airbender performed incredibly well, grossing $70 million over its first five days. The PG-rated film from M. Night Shyamalan has its own rabid fan base that came out in droves despite dismal reviews. And the movie’s three-day weekend gross of $40 million marks the third highest for Shyamalan, behind Signs and The Village.

Toy Story 3, Grown Ups, and Knight and Day dominated the rest of the top five. Toy Story 3 crossed the $300 million mark as expected, with a four-day gross of $42 million. It now stands as the second highest-grossing Pixar film. (It will surpass Finding Nemo shortly.) Grown Ups took in $26 million for the four days, bringing its cume to $85 million. Knight and Day generated $14 million for its second weekend in theaters. The Tom Cruise-starrer’s total take is hovering near $50 million. Hope the holiday was a good one. Til next week…

Horrorthon Music Project -- JSP and 50 play Musical Word Association

Last night, after all of the LA-Horrorthon-4th of July crowd went home, Johnny Sweatpants and I stayed up very late and had a contest with our iPods.

We found an online random word generator and set it to spit out adjectives. We played a ten round game, trying to find a song in our respective iTunes folders that we felt represented that word. There were different settings for the level of complexity of the word and for each word, we'd take about 5 minutes to look through our folders.

We remained tied after ten rounds (two of them were draws), and Pants took the title in the tiebreaker round with one of the funniest tracks I've ever heard.

This will be happening again.
