Killer Nun
(1978) **
I'mnotMarc and I screened our first double feature together, scroll down a bit to his review for more plot points on this one.
How did this one go wrong? Italian names all over the credits, a nun who sneaks out to score morphine and anonymous sex, nun-on-nun action, murder -- seems like it had it all. Instead we get...whining. Lots and lots of whining, mostly from Sister G herself about how she's going crazy and needs to be allowed some time off. And the thing is -- she's totally right! Each successive act of public screwiness would seem to back up her story, yet somehow she stays on, acting like a complete beeyotch and whining about how everybody thinks she's killing people. Not that her accusers are all in the Clue Club. The first real bona-fide murder is covered up by tossing the body down three stories into a courtyard (which covered up the head injuries pretty well, we should all remember that one). Sister Gertrude appears downstairs by the dead man, everyone looks accusingly from their windows, and I'm thinking "if she pushed him, what's she doing down there? Did she ride him down?"
I heard about this movie on And You Call Yourself a Scientist. Her review (read it here) is a pretty good reference point for the nunsploitation subgenre, of which Killer Nun just isn't that great an example. It's like watcing Nurse Ratched gripe about her day, it's confused in a joyless way, the high points are spread way too thin. It does, however, boast some of the most unsexy sex scenes I've ever seen (Friday the 13th VI coming in second), and lots of footage of this hallway. Lots.
