From darkhorizons, Universal Pictures' big-budget fairy tale "The Huntsman: Winter's War" was a dud at the box-office this weekend as it opened to a mere $20.1 million - that's 64% lower than the domestic debut of its 2012 predecessor "Snow White and the Huntsman" with $56.2 million.
With a $115 million budgeted film and terrible reviews, it's going to have to hope to make its cash back overseas. Yet, after two weeks of global release, the film has managed only a further $80.2 million outside the U.S. so far. It also marks the latest non-Marvel costly film flop for Chris Hemsworth off the back of last year's "Blackhat" and "In the Heart of the Sea".
Disney's "The Jungle Book" stayed in first place, taking in a further $60.8 million over the weekend domestically and globally soaring past the $500 million mark. "Barbershop: The Next Cut" came in third with $10.8 million, followed by "Zootopia" with a further $6.6 million domestically and an incredible global total so far passing the $900 million mark.
In limited release, the Tom Hanks-led "Hologram for a King" opened in tenth to $1.2 million from a 400-screen rollout, the Kevin Spacey and Michael Shannon comedy "Elvis and Nixon" had a similar screen number but only managed $470,000.
