Marvel Films Break Harry Potter, James Bond, Star Wars Record

From darkhorizons, With the first few days of box-office in for "Captain America: The Winter Soldier", the nine films that make up the 'Marvel Cinematic Universe' this week have now become the highest-grossing film franchise at the U.S. domestic box-office. The top ten are:

2 - Harry Potter (8 Films)
$2,390.1 billion

3 - Star Wars (7 Films)
$1,918.0 billion

4 - James Bond (24 Films)
$1,912.8 billion

5 - Batman (8 Films)

6 - The Lord of the Rings (6 Films)
$1,622.0 billion

7 - Shrek (5 Films)
$1,419.6 billion

8 - Spider-Man (4 Films)
$1,375.9 billion

9 - Twilight (5 Films)
$1,363.5 billion

10 - Pirates of the Caribbean (4 Films)
$1,279.2 billion

Adjusted for inflation, the James Bond franchise easily stands on top with $5.26 billion, ahead of "Star Wars" with $4.26 billion, "Harry Potter" with $2.95 billion, "Batman" with $2.78 billion and Marvel with $2.58 billion. On the global stage, "Harry Potter" still dominates with $7.7 billion over Marvel's $5.97 billion.

Farewell, Archie: Beloved comic book character to die

(CNN) -- Since 1941, comic book fans have followed the exploits of teenaged Archie Andrews and his friends. This July, they'll find out how he dies.

"Life With Archie" #36 hits stores on July 16, and CNN can reveal exclusively that it tells the story of how Archie sacrifices himself to save a friend.

Few details are known, but it seems fitting that Archie would go out a hero. The 37th issue one week later will end the series.

The "Life With Archie" series has been telling the stories of possible future Archie scenarios for the past few years, and so Archie will continue to be alive in the comics set in the present day.

'Star Wars: Episode VII' Adds Peter Mayhew as Chewbacca (Exclusive)

From  thehollywoodreporter, Peter Mayhew will play Chewbacca for Disney and Lucasfilm's upcoming sequel, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.

Mayhew played the legendary Wookiee and Han Solo's co-pilot in the original trilogy, beginning withStar Wars Episode IV - A New Hope in 1977. Rumors recently surfaced that he was reprising his role after he canceled an upcoming appearance at Texas convention Comicpalooza "due to filming." Since the convention takes place May 23-26, many fans wondered if that meant the actor would be busy withEpisode VII.

Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn revealed on April 2 that the new Star Wars had already begun filming and most of the cast was set. "We have a lot of them [in place]," he said about the main actors, whose names have not been disclosed. "We're just not completely done yet."

Star Wars: Episode VII, to be directed by J.J. Abrams and slated to hit theaters Dec. 18, 2015, has been shrouded in a thick veil of secrecy, with dozens of names flying through the rumor mill for months now. THR reported that Adam Driver will be playing an undisclosed villain. Original stars Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisheralso are said to be reprising their roles.

In March, Walt Disney CEO Bob Iger said the new project would begin filming in May and will be set 30 years after the events in 1983's Return of the Jedi. "There will be some very familiar faces along with a trio of new young leads," he said during Disney's annual shareholder's meeting in Portland, Ore.

Mayhew, who also played Chewbacca in prequel film Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith, has mainly spent his career playing the iconic character, but also appeared in the horror film Terror and did voice work in the British version of Dragon Ball GT: A Hero's Legacy. He's repped by Entertainment Legends Management and Cohen & Gardner.

Disney and Lucasfilm had no comment.

'Captain America 3' confirmed for May 2016 release up against 'Batman vs. Superman'

From ew, After about a month of rumored speculation, Marvel has officially confirmed that Captain America and his trusty vibranium shield will leap back onto the big screen on May 6, 2016 — meaning everyone’s favorite red, white, and blue super soldier will be facing off against another pair of costumed heroes in Warner Bros.’ Batman vs. Superman.

Since news broke that the the two tentpole superhero movies would potentially battle each other out at the box office, Marvel has refused to budge from the coveted date that they committed to in June of 2013. In January 2014,Warner Bros. announced that it was delaying production on its Man of Steel follow-up, moving it from its original July 2015 release date and slotting it for the same May opening.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier premiered this weekend to record April box office numbers, earning $96.2 million in the U.S., bringing its total to over $300 million globally.

Happy Birthday Julie!

My lady celebrated another year today by crashing a five-year-old's birthday party and taking over the bounce house.  Okay, not really.  The five-year-old is a friend of ours and her party coincided neatly with today so I didn't have to order Julie her own bounce house.  I like typing bounce house.

This is posting kind of late but I figure it's fine since blog traffic is so light on weekends anyway.  Jump in for a little late love!  Bounce house!

And seriously, for the last time, what the hell is going on with this?

I mean, you can still see the Iron Man eye and mouth slits, and when the suit's powered down the face isn't made of plexiglass.  Note how we're seeing Jameson's actual eyes and teeth here.  So Brody turns something on and the glowing image of his mustache, nose, eyebrows and laugh lines is projected onto the mask that covers his face.  He made it this big deal to park a projection of his face on his face.  All this in order to establish that he operates in a non-anonymous fashion.  Does anyone else find that extremely counterintuitive?  Couldn't anyone project a Jonah face on themselves and claim to be him?  So wouldn't simply removing the faceplate accomplish the same purpose, only better?
