Is this what happens after 2012? We stop watching movies about the world coming to an end and watch movies in which that happened a while back? We stop catering to the collective fear of the apocalypse and focus on what really scares us: that we'll miss it.
(One of the things that always bothers me when people talk about living in the "end times" is the ego behind it. Generations come and go, but YOU'RE going to be around for the most important thing that ever happened. Sure.
There's a great Seinfeld moment that tuned me in to this phenomenon. Jerry expresses concern about receiving a letter bomb and Kramer scoffs. "Check the ego on you. Who'd send YOU a letter bomb?")
