Daily Spider-Man: Flapt!

I'm bringing it back! I've been watching this strip with one eye in order to spot the story changeover -- looks like we're going to San Francisco, folks! Thanks, plot-specific flying newspaper! When you see it, say hello to the Gilligan's Island KPLOT radio for me!

SPECIAL BONUS: Here are the lead-in strips to today's crossover moment, in which Spidey's Las Vegas/Kraven caper ends with his sociopathic boss throwing garbage at him and stranding him in the desert. Excelsior!

I’m delighted that you decided to bring back this old chestnut. I have actually never stopped following the strip although I’m about a month behind on the Kraven storyline (thanks, Mr. Spoiler!). I love how the newspaper reveals the next villain. In every concluding storyline strip there is always a “reveal” about the next villain. The one thing I love about this strip is how quickly we get into the action. I think somewhere there is a list of villains and whoever is writing the strip (Stan Lee, yeah right), looks at the list and says, “Who haven’t we used in a while?”

I’m picturing a climax on the Bay Bridge.

Was Peter really considering stopping a speeding car in order to hitch a ride? That seems pretty illegal for a few reasons, doesn’t it? Also, why doesn’t peter simply don his Spidy uniform and swing to his next destination?

I like that, swinging from cactus to cactus...

You speak of quickly getting to the action, but I think you mean "quickly getting to the story, then standing around a lot before throwing a punch."

And I was wondering about Peter's webslinging musings. Is he such a loser in his "real" identity that he thinks like this all the time? "I could just grab some menus with my webs, but that would reveal my secret identity!"

Also, is Peter such a loser in real life that he doesn't own a car?

On one hand I want to point out that New Yorkers don't own cars, on the other hand I'm remembering that Tobey Spider-Man's very first goal was to buy a car, and (if you'll indulge my wrenching crossover) here it is years later and he still hasn't pulled it off. Sucka!

I can see your point about not needing a car in NYC but surely Peter has other means at his disposal - is he really that poor? Take a bus, train, or plane for crying out loud. He's worked at the Bugle for years, he must have some savings - and isn't MJ a successful actress? Why is Peter such a bum?

I hope he doesn't have to hustle when he gets to SF. Then again, the costume's probably worth extra...

Sure it looks like harmless fun but Jonah Jameson threw a can with the serrated edges (which can cut you fairly easily), a bottle and what appears to be a bong at Peter. That's not funny. Why does he continue to work for him again? Perhaps he feels like he deserves the abuse. He still feels guilty about the circumstances surrounding the death of poor Uncle Ben.
