You got an extra guy! Hump Day submissions still being accepted

Since I posted so late yesterday, I will still be entertaining your poetic ramblings pertaining to those newfangled televisual gaming devices. Deadline is noon California time, so that's three extra hours for our hapless snow-encrusted bloggers back east. Reeeeally digging the stuff I've read so far; lots of guffaws.

Go here and express yourself!

'The Simpsons': Do all of the McBain clips add up to a killer action movie?

From ew, Are the producers of The Simpsons even sneakier than we thought? Consider the following video evidence, which stitches together all of those ’90s Simpsons clips featuring Rainier Wolfcastle in action as McBain, the Arnold Schwarzenegger/Bruce Willis-spoofing movie action hero. Turns out, they kinda-sorta add up to a short film in which McBain butts heads with his by-the-book boss (“Bye, book,” he declares after literally shooting the captain’s book), avenges the death of his partner (who was just two days away from retiring and sailing away with his wife on their newly christened boat, The Live-4-Ever!) by taking down Senator Mendoza (who’s been moonlighting as the head of an international drug cartel!), and gets the girl (“Right now, I’m thinking of holding another meeting… in bed”). So, was this part of an ancient secret master plan that is only now coming to light? “It was always just conceived as the most melodramatic fragments of a bigger movie where we never really had a big movie in mind,” Simpsons exec producer Al Jean tells EW. Jean did, however, open the door for the McBain mini-movie to eventually add a few scenes: “If Schwarzenegger goes back into movies, then we’ll go back into McBain.” And he left us with this quip: “If we edited together all the Itchy & Scratchys, we’d have The Simpsons Movie 2.”

Hump Day Challenge! It's Video Games!

Apologies for the late start!

When HHD was young and foolish, there were two topics I thought deserved revisitation: Star Wars and this one. Star Wars played its hand in the HHD's gritty reboot a few weeks back, and that day I vowed to my assembled legions* that I would bring back this topic first chance I got.

Handsome Stan garnered an impressive 135 responses that day, because as a group we have a healthy distaste for reality. I say: Give me less reality! I played a round of Angry Birds not five minutes ago, goddammit!

*(of Lego people)

Does it get better than this? No, not really

My rules are broad: haiku, limerick, free verse, sonnet, prose if you're feeling up to it -- just spin some phat woids and then get back to your joysticks and paddle controllers.

Or big honkin' guns

I'm keeping this intro short because it's already past lunch in the Ice Belt (formerly known as the East Coast). And I'll be accepting submissions until noon tomorrow, California time.

Here's our HHD offerings on the topic, for inspiration.

Zap zap! Pyeww!

Damn fine! Check out the Twin Peak cameos in this Psych homage

From ew, Some of the folks at USA’s Psych are big fans of the offbeat, early ‘90s drama, Twin Peaks — such big fans that, after their well-received “Dual Spires” homage in December, they might pay homage to David Lynch’s surreal soap a second time.

“Hopefully, we’ll get a chance to do some kind of revisiting of the episode. I know James [Roday] is thinking about it,” DulĂ© Hill told EW last Saturday at EW’s pre-SAG party. “I know he and Steve [Franks, creator and executive producer] had talked about it. Hopefully we can make it happen.”

The December episode followed Shawn and Gus as they solve a teenage girl’s murder in an isolated village after its annual cinnamon festival goes awry. Seven of the original Twin Peaks cast members had guest roles in the episode, which was replete with Peaks references: Owls, “damn fine” diner food, anagrammed character names, and a host of more subtle nods for fans of the original series.

Hill said that the Peaks cast left a few of his Psych colleagues, including co-stars James Roday and Tim Omundson, pretty star-struck: “They were like little geeks, really. They went gaga over them. James was like, ‘Oh my God.’”

And how did Hill find working with the Peaks alumni? “They were great people. I loved every last one of them.”

1994 Today Show Asks 'What's An Internet?'

From geekology, This is a video of somebody taping their television while replaying a 1994 Today Show in which Katie Couric (nice hair!), Bryant Gumballs and some random get confused about what the '@' sign (it's not a b-hole?!) means (Katie: "I think it would be around or about"), and then proceed to ask WTF the internet is (besides magic). Now I'm not saying I knew what the internet was 17 years ago, but I did and I wouldn't have sounded like a dimwit on a national morning news program talking about it. "Oh -- it looks like we have a caller on the line who claims he can explain exactly what the internet is in 10-seconds or less." Der der, you dummies -- IT'S A SERIES OF TUBES. Katie, keep those yams perky -- GW OUT!

Balloon Party results!

I apologize for the lateness of the results. I really had a tough time deciding on the winner. I loved everything that you guys wrote! Who knew that we could get so much mileage using balloons as a topic? In the end I had to go with Octopunk because he was able to tie all of our weird stories together. Cat, I love where you took the “Jimmy” story. JPX, I thought your Chris/Jennifer story was hilarious, especially when you had Chris “wear” the balloon.

Congratulations, Octopunk, you really made me chuckle.
