Daily Spider-Man: Daredevil reveals his power to speed-grow the armpit hair of others

I PREDICT: It will turn out that DD was already aware of Kingpin's death trap thanks to his super-senses, which means it makes no sense that he's actually surprised to "see" Spidey, which means he really was ignoring him and probably further indicates he will try to blame the forthcoming catastrophe on Spidey as well.

Spider-Man: the Forrest Gump of superheroes.

Excellent prediction, Octo! Peter is basically a nuisance. There was absolutely no reason for him to hitch a ride to San Francisco when (a) there was no obvious threat – I mean, if he read about Kingpin in the newspaper people are obviously aware that Kingpin is in town and (b) if this is set in the Marvel universe than there are tons of superheroes who could help out.

I like how they’re both paused in mid-trapeze artist flight having a conversation. It’s funny how he swats Peter like the spider that he is.

I know! And Spidey's having a total spaz attack. Look at all those wiggle lines!

Once again I always read "?" as "what the fuck?" Poor Spidey. He travels 237 miles on the back of a truck and this is the thanks he gets?

But maybe that's all he deserves.

This thread is hilarious. What I also find totally awesome is that in this day and age, in the world of Internet insta-everything, there is still some sort of audience for the daily newspaper strip, where literally on a Monday, a villain can threaten a hero with death "in one minute," and then by Wednesday, STILL not one minute of screen time has passed. That's, at minimum, THREE days before you've got any kind of payoff. Can't WAIT to see if these 60 'seconds make it to Friday (Happy Hump Minute!)

i know that this is part and parcel of the charm of this, but WHO is reading this and getting something out of it (besides brilliant snarky bloggers)? This question is relevant for every other molasses-paced strip that appears in print. "Driver, to the airport!" (Rex) and so on...

Don't get me wrong, the titles, presentation and analysis are HUGELY awesome, and I want them to continue forever. Thank you Octo, thank you ALL.

Hahaha Stan. The glacial pace is what makes it so compelling. Every tiny nuance can be dissected. On the other hand it's so very frustrating. It reminds me of the old saying "a watched pot never boils". The plot never seems to move forward on a day to day basis but when you look at it as a whole, weeks (months?) later you realize that... nothing much happened. Octo started posting on January 27th. 17 days have passed and the storyline can be summed up in two sentences: After thwarting a mugger, Peter travels to San Francisco to put a stop to Kingpin's unknown plans. Daredevil is already on the case and does not want Spider-Man's assistance for some reason.

I had to share office space once with someone whose musical taste did not mesh well with mine. When I asked why he liked Kiss and Motley Crue, his only reason was "well they're so funny!"

Now I get irony, of course, but it made no sense to me that his entire musical taste would be built on such (and I don't think it was, I think he just couldn't work out a way to express himself). I know Kiss fans here on the blog would credit their Kiss fandom as more than a joke.

But I can't for the life of me imagine people who are genuinely, no-bullshit really excited about serial strips. Maybe some kids with Spider-Man here, but Mary Worth? Anyone?

Johnny Sweatpants said...

Presumably only people with severe brain damage. I went back and read the past month or so of Mary Worth and the only thing that transpired is that she and her neighbor entered a cake baking competition.

Regarding Kiss, I don't see how anyone could not be a fan. Every single thing they do is either awesome or hilarious. I get that you were just using them as an example though.

Kiiind of. I love Kiss in many ways, but I'll never be interested in sitting down and listening to their music. There's a particular "rock n' roll" vibe that just does NOT work for me, although I respect the hell out of it.

Best example: love the Stones, can't stand The Who.

JPX said...

I'll shock you guys even more, I don't like the Stones or The Who. The Who's popularity completely eludes me. I've never liked a single song. I kind of hate their music. There are probably 5 Stones songs I like but overall I just can't get into them.

Johnny Sweatpants said...

JPX the only reason you don't like The Who or The Stones is because they're not one of the 5 bands that you listen to.

Pwnd.

JPX said...

Not true! I've heard Stones songs for decades and they never grabbed me. I like a handful of their stuff andI certainly respect them. The Who? Bleeech! They make my ears bleed. I hate their music and I hate their personalities.

Besides, I like 6 bands!
