Even though this is pretty much just a Monday recap for folks who don't read on Sundays (or for JPX, who needs the extra help), the contrast between the sexy-wife-warmed bed and the filthy freeway web hammock is just tragically sad. Peter, you're an idiot.
What’s with only having two panels? How lazy is that? Talk about phoning it in! Even though it’s only a recap, would it have killed the writer/artist to have a third panel? I agree with your assessment, Octo, why would he choose to go to CA rather than spend time with the increasingly sexy M. J.? I love the contrast of her ample bosom and Peter sucking up carbon monoxide. Also, there are many superheroes in the Marvel universe so why does Peter feel the need to deal with Kingpin? I’m sure there are superheroes residing in San Francisco. I think I’m finally following the story correctly – it only took a week.
Did anyone notice that the car directly behind Peter is facing the wrong way? It clearly is the back of the car, but it can't be because he's on a highway and the cars are all traveling in the same direction. Except for the car that's directly behind him as that driver would clearly do something about seeing some guy in a web hammock on the back of a semi....
Never-mind - must be a two lane highway(?)...just looked at it more closely.
However, the truck in Sunday's comic was bright orange. Is he switching trucks in mid-convo with M.J?
I get it now. Sunday was the conclusion of "San Francisco: Open Your Golden Gate" (awesome) and this one marks the beginning of "The Night of Kingpin".
It does seem as though Peter is avoiding MJ. "I've heard that the Kingpin's there, more dangerous than ever!" His reasoning is pretty flimsy. In the first one Octo posted Peter was "flapt!" in the head by a newspaper that read "infamous Kingpin rumored to be rounding up gangs in San Francisco". So what? Kingpin is ALWAYS up to something. Why should he spend his time and energy on Kingpin based solely on a rumor?
Ha! I never thought of that. Perhaps this week we'll get to see a soot-covered Peter (looking like a cartoon character who just had dynamite go off in their face) corner the Kingpin with his camera, only to have the Big Man turn around and be revealed as a bald, muumuu-wearing fat lady. Then the next panel will be Mary Jane and the Kingpin sitting on a rooftop patio, wearing bathrobes and sipping mimosas.
Hmmmm, I'm wondering why MJ is dressed so seductively when her man is nowhere around. Is she just always ready for him or is she hoping someone else will pop in.
DCD: the car direction thing confused me for a while, too, and I think they threw it in there for the exact reason you say; any car behind that truck would honk or call the police or take a video or all of the above.
The art credit for Sunday is someone different, and I guess they just can't be bothered to draw boring old gray trucks.
And another thing -- the hammock boasts casual comfort, but in reality a truck hammock would be slamming its occupant against metal with every speed change.
I'm willing to give Peter the benefit of the doubt regarding the hammock. I'd like to think he made it extra secure and that the web is silky and comfortable. Perhaps the vibrations from the truck arouse him in a way that MJ's breasts are unable to.
Aaaaaaand we're right back to tragically sad.
LOL.
