The Canal

(2014)****

In researching unsolved crimes David discovers a grizzly murder happened in the very house he is living in. The murderer stabbed his cheating wife to death then threw her body into the nearby canal. David suspects his own wife has been cheating so he follows her to the house of one of her colleagues and sure enough spies them having sex. He heads home distraught and defeated stopping off in a nasty public toilet by the canal to vomit. While he is in the bathroom a strange man enters and lurks outside his stall. The following day his wife turns up missing, soon after her lifeless body is discovered floating in the canal. David becomes the immediate suspect but is cleared when no evidence of foul play is found. He hires a nanny and he and his son try to adjust to life without her but the nightmare isn't over. David suspects the man who followed him into the bathroom murdered his wife and he will stop at nothing to find him.

This was a real surprise find. I happened on it while surfing Netflix and was pleased to find it really had some good stuff going on. There are some genuine scares in this film and a real shocker of a conclusion as well. The little kid is adorable, maybe I just love kids with british accents. Great setting, a good one to watch alone in the dark.
